My parents, little brother, and I were going out to eat to celebrate my seventeenth birthday. I decided that we should go to this new restaurant downtown. I heard from a couple people that the food here is great.

We were seated at a table in the corner. "Hello guys, my name is Michael and I will be your server tonight," Said a voice, causing me to look up from the menu. The waiter had vibrant red hair, a piercing above one of his eyes, and was wearing black converse with his uniform.

I recognized Michael from school, I think he was a senior. "Can I start by getting you guys something to drink?" He said, taking out a notepad to write down our orders. My Mom, Dad, and younger brother all ordered water, iced tea, or lemonade. "I'll take a Mountain Dew, please" I said to Michael. "Ok, I'll be right back with those," Then he left.

As soon as he was gone, my Mom started talking. "Oh. My. God. Did you see his hair?" She said to my father. "I know right, I cant believe the manager would let him have all that jewelry on his face. So unprofessional," My Dad chimed in. It was only one piercing, I mentally defended Michael. "I like his hair, its like a fire engine!" My little brother spoke up. "Son, please never color your hair like that..." My Dad said strictly. I knew my Mom was about to say something harsh, but she stopped once age noticed Michael rounding the corner.

"Here you go," He said while handing us each our drinks. "Thank you," I said to Michael. "No problem, Anything else you guys need? Questions?" Michael asked our table. I saw my Dad clenched his jaw, he was about to say something snarky about his hair I bet. "No, I think we're good." I said quickly before my Dad could say anything negative.

"Ok. May I take your order now?" Michael took out his notepad again. We ordered our food, and Michael walked back into the kitchen. My parents started talking again. Luckily, they had moved onto a different topic.

After a few minutes or so, our food arrived. "Wow! That was fast! You're like a superhero." My little brother blurted out. "Thanks bud, but I'm just doing my job." Michael smiled brightly. Michael turned to go attend to another table. I swear I saw him wink at me before he left.

We finished our food quickly, and our check arrived. My Dad threw a few crumpled dollars on the table, much less than what Michael deserved. My family stood up to go to the check out counter. "Im gonna go to the bathroom, you go on without me" I told them. When they were out of view, I took a five dollar bill out of my purse. I also decided to leave a note.

I wrote down my phone number on the five dollar bill. I think we go to school together, we should hang out sometime. You seem like a nice guy. I wrote in my small neat handwriting.

I walked towards the counter with my family. I watched as Michael picked up his tip, hoping that he read the note. He must have, because he smiled in my direction. I couldn't tell from far away, but I think he winked again. Maybe it was my sidenote he read.

P.s. I love your hair.

My coworkers were annoying, especially the new guy Calum. He would constantly be messy up orders, flirting with the customers, and violating the dress code. The only reason why he still had a job was because his uncle owned the restaurant.

It was closing time, and me and Calum were getting into an argument. We were in the back of the kitchen, I was yelling over how his uncle is favoring him.

"You're lazy, you never follow the rules, and you flirt with all the customers!" I yelled at him. "Someone seems jealous," Calum teased. "No. Im. Not." I said seriously. "Jealous of all the girls drooling over me?" Calum smirked. I couldn't think of how to respond to that. "I hate you," I told him. Calum grabbed my waist and pulled me towards him. "I hate you too," He said, pressing his lips to my pursed ones.

For some odd reason, I didn't pull away. Instead I brought my hand up to his cheek deepening the kiss. It was Calum who pulled away. "Im pretty sure making out with your coworker while you're at work is breaking the rules," Calum smirked. "I don't care," I said, kissing him passionately.

"Y/N? Are you breaking the rules?" He kissed me again. "Just shut up and kiss me," I laughed awkwardly.

Working with Calum became easier. He stopped flirting with the customers and became better at taking orders. I often tried to flirt with customers, just to see Calum's reaction but I suck at flirting. And after work Calum and I would make out in the back seat of his car, whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
