"do you want to go back home then?" seonghwa asked the other who was nervously bouncing on his heels.
hongjoong shook his head and took a deep breath. "it's fine, i just don't want to stress when the ladies call me over and try to get me to buy something."
seonghwa laughed and ruffled his friend's hair that closely resembled strawberry icing now that it had faded. hongjoong narrowed his eyes at the other, "you're not taking this seriously."
"is it that bad?"
"is it that bad?! do you know how much i spent last time i was in namdaemun?"
seonghwa nonchalantly shrugged which somehow annoyed hongjoong even more.
"100,000 won! how does anyone spend that much money here?" hongjoong cried out.
seonghwa's mouth fell open but he didn't want to other to feel worse so he quickly went back to normal. "so, you're just a softie! it's a good trait!"
"my poor wallet thinks otherwise."
seonghwa scanned over the area, mapping out a game plan. "how about this, we walk through and if someone calls for us and you're not interested, squeeze my hand twice and i'll be the guy to tell them no." he offered.
hongjoong's face morphed from a frown to a dazzling smile. "really? i'd appreciate it! i want to get some new accessories so bad."
seonghwa nodded and swiftly entangled the other's hand with his. for some reason, he thought he might be more excited for this trip than hongjoong was. seonghwa's heart had never beat this fast for shopping before. but he had to focus on the new obstacles of the market. they began to walk through groups of people, some were teenagers who probably couldn't afford anything yet, others were looking for any sort of item to willingly spend all their money on.
seonghwa used to be like that. he'd waste every check of his on useless items just because he wanted to do something. but his room quickly started to swallow him up with all of the cheap treats and tricks he had gathered up. seonghwa vowed to not buy anything today, he was just here to hang out with hongjoong.
the said boy was huddled so close to him that his cologne overtook the hundreds of sweaty bodies around them. it was a really fresh scent. maybe something floral? or glistening dewdrops on leaves? perhaps even lavender, which just happened to be seonghwa's favorite scent. "hey there! you two would look so handsome in these bucket hats! they're really hip now." a woman with sagging skin and frizzed hair called out to them.
seonghwa couldn't help but smile at her. he was impressed that she was still out here working hard at her age when he could barely get up to take a shower. but it didn't last long as he felt two quick grips on his hand. seonghwa turned to face the other and lifted his brow. she's such a sweet lady though, he tried to send his message through his eyes. but after another two squeezes, he politely declined her and dragged the other away. "why did you hesitate?" hongjoong whined once they were out of earshot.
"she seemed really sweet!"
"i agree and that's why our bank accounts are always drained!"
they both sighed. neither of them were very good at the "somewhat selfish" persona. "should we just go? grab some food and get home before it's too late?" hongjoong suggested with a giggle.
but seonghwa was determined. his friend wanted to go shopping therefore, they were going shopping. without a reply, he tugged the other along to find their next stop. "thank you." hongjoong mumbled as a grin spread across his face.
