it was about time for a break. normally, they'd be fine with working hard on new plans but jinyoung had hurt his leg recently and was healing. jaebum had decided that they all needed a bit of rest so they took a week off. most of the boys lounged around the living room but a few were outside preparing the dinner, barbeque. bambam told them to keep the sliding door open so he could smell it still. an odd request to some but they did it anyways. "too bad you can't swim with us tonight." jaebum frowned at jinyoung who laid out on a tanning chair.

his leg was propped up by a halfway inflated pool floaty and he held up a soju bottle with an orange umbrella popping out of it. "it's okay, i get easier access to food up here."

"very good point." jaebum laughed as he flipped over the meat on the grill.

the sizzling of the grill harmonized with the crickets creating a calm atmosphere for them to relax in. the afternoon had been full of partying. they blasted music at full volume, drank anything and everything in the cabinets, and even tried a game of twister (it was a mess). but it became nighttime and everyone was winding down. they weren't even close to being done but still thought they should take it down a few notches. "we can splash you, if you want." youngjae said, it was muffled as he was chewing a piece of beef fresh off the grill.

it definitely should have burnt his hand and tongue in the process but he seemed fine. "i'll pass but i appreciate the offer."

youngjae shrugged and went back inside to let the others know that the food was almost done. "sometimes i wish, we could just live like this." jinyoung sighed then took a sip of his drink.

"what do you mean?" jaebum asked.

"i love what we do, don't get me wrong, but i wish life was easy like this where we can all just hang out and do stupid things like find the constellations."

"it is pretty nice, isn't it?"

"yeah."

the other boys started gathering into the small backyard that overlooked a city. a long glistening pool beside the concrete porch and smoke from the grill blending into the sky. jaebum had laid out the lettuce and meat, so everyone just started digging in. nobody felt the need to talk. everyone felt comfortable in their own created silence. nobody needed to pressure themselves to clear the air anymore like they used to years ago. it was home now.

"i wonder what it's like to eat while you're in the pool." yugyeom blurted out.

"what?!" mark giggled at the thought.

"i'm serious! it's got to be different right?"

"i don't think so, but eating underwater probably would feel different." jackson sneakily suggested.

yugyeom's eyes widened at the idea and he began to stand up. "no! we're renting this place! we can't just let food float around in there!" jaebum protested as he ran to chase after the youngest.

"well, he can't stop two of us." jackson mumbled before he ran off to the pool.

"make that three." bambam announced as he got up too.

the boys ran and ran around the pool breaking every rule in the book but the rest were simply laughing at the sight. youngjae and mark tried their best to hide the rest of the food before the others wore themselves out. "jinyoung, you're supposed to be the one that helps me out in these situations!" jaebum shouted out.

"what do you want me to do? take my cast off and throw it at them?" he yelled back.

"not a bad idea!"

jinyoung rolled his eyes and continued relaxing while the others went crazy. bambam and jackson had resorted to throwing random floaties at jaebum. everyone was pretty sure yugyeom forgot why he was running around. but eventually, jackson got knocked into the pool by one of his own. "toss me some lettuce!" jackson called out to the ones still eating.

the chaos continued. from eating food underwater to trying to grill tree bark. none of it made any sense then and it still wouldn't in the morning. but when they all (minus jinyoung) got into the pool and were gazing at the stars, it was like everyone had sobered up. of course, youngjae's hiccuping occupied the silence but other than that it was quiet.

the stars would occasionally twinkle like they were winking at the boys. jinyoung was secretly hoping for a shooting star. he always made a wish on them when he was a child. right now, he had a big request.

that everything would always stay this way.

the boys being unafraid to be themselves around each other. complete trust tangled between them. the laughter, the calm, and the stress. because, even with the city below them that was brimming with people and excitement, the only people he needed to be around were his six brothers.

that was his wish.
