****Flashbacks are going to be in italics****

It was a bittersweet day. Today was the day your parents started to pack up your childhood home so that they can move on to their new life in retirement driving cross-country in an RV. James came along with you to help you pack up the things you wanted to take with you to your apartment that your parents were not going to take with them.

"I can't believe we're at the age when our parents actually force us to move our stuff out because they're going to start their own life. This is crazy," James said while carrying a box full of your old books to the trunk of your car.

"I know. It seems like we just learned how to ride our bikes here the other day. Not back when we were 7," you said as you looked down the street remembering the day you finally rode a bike without training wheels.

"(Y/N)! You're doing it! You're riding the bike!" James had been outside with you and your dad helping you learn how to ride the bike and cheering you on for the last hour. He kept telling you that you could do it and that was all you needed.

You continued to ride your bike down to the end of the block and finally stopped. James was running after you and when he finally reached you he wrapped his arms around you and hugged you tight. "I told you. I told you that you can do it. Now we can ride our bikes together all the time."

"Do you remember the old treehouse?" you asked, "I think that's what I'm going to miss the most," you said as you started walking back into the house and then towards the backyard where your old treehouse was.

"Ahh yes, the old second home. We had so many pizza parties in there remember?"

"Of course, I remember," you answered, "those were the best Friday night pizza parties of all time."

"(Y/N)! James! I've got your pizza," your mom yelled from the bottom of the tree.

You and James both walk over to the treehouse entrance and look down to see your mom holding a box of pizza and smiling up at the two of you.

"Alright. We'll send the basket down mom." You went over to the side window and pushed the wooden crate you and James had tied to a rope out. Slowly you started to lower it and once your mom placed the pizza in the box you brought it back up. "Alright James. We have pizza!"

The rest of the day was spent with you two talking about your favorite shows and just eating the pizza until it was way past dark and there was not a single slice of the delicious pizza left.

"Earth to (Y/N). Are you coming or what?"

You looked around you and noticed that James was already on the top of the ladder and up in the treehouse looking down at you. You quickly followed until you joined him and looked down to the earth below you.

"Wow. I remember it being so much higher than this back then."

"Yeah me too, but we were also a lot shorter back then. Come on. Let's sit." James walked further into the treehouse and sat crisscrossed on the floor.

You looked at him confused and then glanced over to the small bench next to him. "Why are you on the floor when we have the old bench?"

"There's no way I'm sitting on that old bench (Y/N). I weigh like three times as much as I did when we were seven."

"That's a good point," you sat down on the floor and started to look around the old treehouse thinking about all of the old memories you shared in there.

"This is so crazy. After we both moved out I didn't think that we would ever be up here together again."

"Aww, come on James you have to know that no matter what you're not getting rid of me."

"No, it's not that it's just being up here brings back a lot of memories and old feelings you know what I mean?"

"What kind of old feelings?"

"Seriously? You know exactly what I'm talking about."

"James, I'm honestly so confused right now. What feelings are you talking about?"

"Are you seriously telling me that you didn't know I had a crush on you growing up? It was so obvious. I was not good at hiding it at all."

"Wait. You had a crush on me? How the hell did that happen?"

"What do you mean? We grew up together. You know me better than anyone. There was no one else that I wanted to spend my time with. Plus, the cuteness factor was very high. I can't believe you didn't know that I liked y-"

You didn't let James finish talking though. You placed yourself right in front of him and just leaned up and kissed him. You don't know why you chose to do it know, but you didn't have anything to lose.

You pulled away and you and James just stared at each other. Neither of you said anything until James asked, "Why?"

"Because I liked you too. How did you not know that? I still like you actually. I just figured I'd take a chance right now."

"Are you serious? You mean to tell me we could've made these confessions when we were younger?"

"We could've, but I don't think we were ready for each other yet."

"And what do you think now?"

"I think I really want to kiss you again." James placed his hand on your cheek and started to slowly lean in for a second kiss when suddenly your mom yelled from the bottom of the treehouse.

"(Y/N)! James! The pizza's here. Lower the basket."

You started to laugh and looked at James. "Just like old times right?"

"No. It's better now. It's what I wish it was."
