"All clear on my side," said Brad while looking out at the road. Night watch was a thankless job, but it's an important one. Him and his brother are new to the clan, so they're given this job to prove their worth.
"Same here, bro," replied Jose, yawning. "Not like anything would come out at night, anyway."
"Don't say that," replied Brad. "We got reports of aswang coming out and attacking various places, after all."
"Bah!" said Jose. "As if they'd hit us. There's too ma-"
Just as he was about to finish his sentence, both both brothers knew no more. They never saw Remuel from the sky, nor his newly acquired black flames. They never even had the chance to scream, for their necks have been badly burnt by the black flames.
"Smells as disturbing as ever," said Remuel to himself. He then telepathically said, "Yo, Gia'ar, you hear me?"
"Yes, Sir Remuel," replied Gia'ar. "Forming a portal near your position now."
A minute passed by before a portal formed and out came the rest of Remuel's comrades. They nodded at each other and continued downstairs. Tina and Cassandra both used magic to turn the group invisible and silent; the Monkey Clan guards of the fifth floor never saw or heard them come. The same with the ones on the fourth, too.
"Tina, cast illusion magic on the entry points," said Remuel. "Gia'ar and Cassandra, on me. We need to move quickly."
The three of them found the prisoners quickly. The operation was quick and silent enough that Tina wasn't able to finish casting her spells.
The noise of a portal opening woke Dea up from her sleep.
"Our work is done," said Remuel. "Time for you to uphold your end of the bargain."
It has been a day since Remuel and his team set out for the Black Fire Coven. Many of the leaders of Asylum went off to do their own thing. The only one left behind was Sigmareth, who doesn't really have anything to do, save for some paperwork.
With a bang, the door to his office suddenly opened. It startled him and caused him to transform into his demonic form and squawked. He then glared at the owner of the offending demonic hoof that kicked his door open.
"Remuel, please never do that again," said Sigmareth while slowly transforming back to his human-like form. "You're gonna kill me if you do."
Remuel simply waved his hands dismissively in response.
"Sigmareth, where's Seymour?" he asked. "The leader of the Black Fire Coven wants to have an audience."
"Beats me," replied Sigmareth, shrugging. "He disappeared after breakfast. Try asking Chesca, she took over the training program for the Warriors."
Hearing this, Remuel went back to the others. Sigmareth used magic to close the door before returning to his work.
Remuel told his company about the exchange and they started going towards the barracks. On the way there, they could hear the loud thumps caused by the stomping of the Warriors. They could also hear the loud roaring voices of training officers. They could also see its impressive walls and spires looming over the other buildings in the area.
Dea was both overwhelmed and impressed by all of the things she is experiencing. The urban areas of Asylum resembled the urban areas of the past, before the cataclysm, just with more large trees and metal spires. She was also surprised by the sight of humans walking in the same street as demons and aswang.
When they arrived at the barracks, some of the Guardians tasked with protecting the urban areas were present. They saluted Remuel, who reciprocated the gesture of respect.
Within a few minutes, they got to the main courtyard, found within the center of the barracks. There, they found the source of the sounds that they heard earlier. They also found a woman supervising everything.
Her hair was cut short, giving her a boyish look. Her clothing consisted of a plain light brown shirt, a pair of brown pants, and a pair of leather boots, matching the color of her pants. A liuyedao hung by her waist. Remuel told Dea that this was none other than Chesca, the protege of Pacifico.
Remuel called her over, taking her attention away from the training soldiers. She had a neutral expression and simply greeted the two with a nod. Remuel explained the situation to her.
"You're looking for my master?" said Chesca. "You'll find him working on his new experiment."
"New experiment?" questioned Remuel. "And where is that, exactly?"
Chesca sighed. "It'll be easier leading you there than telling you where it is."
She then told one of the officers to supervise the training in her place before leading Remuel and the others to where Pacifico was experimenting with arrays.
