Love at first sight

Was I seeing things? Was something wrong with me? All I knew is that Emrys had a limp on his back leg as he walked away from the cut Lancelot had made on his leg. But something made me think and that was when Merlin was limping badly as he came out the woods after I had left the woods. These things added up in a strange way. One, Emrys and Merlin were never in the same place at the same time. Two, Merlin disappears when Emrys appears and when Emrys disappears Merlin appears only after and three, both of them had a bond with Aithusa since he'd seen her with both of them. This made me think things I had never thought before but possibly, Merlin and Emrys were both the same person.

That day I kept a eye on what Merlin was doing to see if I could spot any signs that proved what I thought was right. I watched him in the village as he was walking with Gaius. Merlin was laughing until he held his shoulder in pain. Gaius quickly pulled his shirt a little and I saw some sort of burn mark on his shoulder. I added that to my list since burns normally came from being around fire and dragons could breathe fire.

Later I watched him while knight training. He was drawing in a book that had a dragon on the front of it. He kept looking up at me then back at the book to continue drawing. It wasn't until I saw his head quickly go up looking into the woods, with that he quickly walked into the woods even though I never heard anything coming from the woods.

And finally I watched him playing with Aithusa in the small spot that they both played in. It was the same spot Emrys normally came to with Aithusa and it was strange that Merlin came here with her too.

I decided to sneak into Merlin's room to see if I could find any trace of what I thought was true. As I looked around his room I found the book he had been drawing in, I looked through it to see drawings that were really good. I saw a lot of drawings of Aithusa and of the woods. There was one of the castle and there was a little writing under it.

Camelot Castle, big and full of people living in the village just outside the castle. Just outside the castle walls is a huge wood. Inside the castle is big and has a lot of different rooms.

Had Merlin been walking around the castle looking at everything? It seemed like it from his drawings and what he had wrote. I made it to the last page he drew on and I saw it was a drawing of me. There was writing on the bottom just like the other drawing.

Arthur Pendragon, Prince of Camelot and Future King, is kind and isn't against the magical world like his father Uther Pendragon. Aithusa likes him a lot which I'm happy about since I wanted them to get along.

Merlin wanted us to get along? Why did he want that? I continued to read.

I have been working as Arthur's manservant as he asked me to take the job. He is good company and is friendly with his knights and calls them by name. The Future King is someone who I like to be around and would like to get closer to, he treats me more like a friend then a servant and even lets me call him Arthur instead of sire or highness. I know I shouldn't feel the things I feel for Arthur since if anyone was to find out the truth of why I was here and what I was they would kill me and kill Aithusa too. But the way his eyes glow in the light make my heart beat fast in my chest and I have to hide it in case someone hears. If only Arthur knew what he has done for me, if only he knew how I felt and how he saved my life.

Merlin had feelings towards me? And what did he mean by I saved his life? I thought back to try and think when I had saved him and it clicked. Emrys and Merlin were the same person and I had saved Merlin's life when I freed him from the caves when he was in dragon form. That's why when I looked in Merlin's eyes I recognised them and his smile. I heard people shouting from outside as I looked out the window Merlin was screaming in the village and he was holding onto his shoulder tightly. I ran to the village as I saw him almost crying from the pain.

"Merlin!" I ran forward until he backed away from me.

"Stop! Please don't come near me" I looked at him then saw the gold glowing in his eyes. It was the gold that I saw when he was a dragon. I went to touch him but he backed away and started running out of the village towards the woods.

"Merlin!" I ran after him the knights staying behind as I ran after him. I knew exactly where he was going I ran my legs hurting as I saw him sitting on the rock, with his shirt off. I looked at the scar on his shoulder and it was in a pattern on his back going from his shoulders. I walked forward slowly. "Merlin?" He looked at me his eyes glowing.

"Arthur don't come near me I don't want to hurt you" I slowly kept moving.

"It's okay Merlin, it's going to be okay"

"You don't understand! You don't know-"

"I know Merlin" He looked at me eyes frozen on me. "I know everything, and I want to help you" He looked away and at his hands then groaned as he turned into a dragon roaring. "Hey! It's me!" He looked at me growling. "Merlin it's me" He stared at me as his eyes went calm and he lay on the floor next to me. I moved over to him rubbing his head. "You will be okay" He turned human and I held him against me.

"My time is almost up" I looked at him. "We all have a destiny to complete in a matter of time and if we don't find out what it is or don't complete it in time... We lose the will to be human and lose our human sides and become wild" This worried me, I couldn't think of Merlin going wild and not being able to be him again. I tilted his head up to look at me and I felt something I hadn't felt before. I felt Merlin's dragon form and saw what he had seen in all the years he had been in pain and scared. I smiled at him lovingly.

"Then we will face it together" I saw him smile gripping onto my shirt. "And I promise whatever happens I will be by your side forever"
