11 years earlier:
"Tony!" Steve laughed as he ran to the boy in his classroom. He was so tiny compared to everyone else there. He was shorter than average for one, and secondly he had skipped a year.
"What blondie?" He rolled his eyes.
Steve couldn't help but awe at how cute he looked. They were in second grade at the moment. Steve had the most glittery star stickers on the board and Tony the highest grade percentage.
"What did you bring for lunch today?"
"....nothing" Tony looked away in shame, his parents didn't have enough money to pack a lunch, they could barely pay the cost of this private school.
Sooner or later he'd have to leave to a public one.
"What? Really?!" Steve looked at him in horror.
"Yes...and what! What if I wasn't feeling hungry today!" He stated out loud.
Steve smiled, "you're right, sorry"He unzipped his lunch bag and took out a gourmet meal.
Tony looked towards it with hungry eyes, who was he kidding?! He was starving!
He felt his stomach twist.Damn it.
"Want some?" Steve offered.
Tony's eyes widened, was it that obvious?
He was pathetic."No thank you" he declined.
The next day Tony was fighting the pain in his stomach. He hadn't ate in two days and it was taking a toll.
"Here tony!" Steve set a lunch box in front of Tony and smiled, "I asked the cook to make two today!"
"What? Why?!" Tony looked a the skinny blonde before him."Because i can"
Tony never really wanted to make friends. He wanted to graduate and make money for his family fast, this was just a-
"Come on, it yummy! My mommy said eating lunch was e...ease...easwential?"
Tony laughed as Steve struggled to pronounce a word.Steve blushed and sighed, "she said you need to eat so you can learn more!".
Tony nodded and dug in.
Steve's mom was right, because right after that delicious meal, Tony answered all the questions and earned himself another gold star. For the following months Steve would bring Tony lunch and they developed a nice relationship.
Tony liked Steve. He was a good person. But that friend ship didn't last long. Steve began hanging out with different kids like Bucky, Peggy, and Thor.
Tony didn't mind though, Steve was free to do as he liked. All he knew was that he would forever be thankful to him.Years passed and they never talked.
Steve became a stranger to Tony and the two saw each other as rivals instead. And then.....
"Mom....where's dad?" Tony entered his house finding his mom sobbing in the kitchen table.
His world turned upside down that day.
The man of the house was gone and now his mom was left with all the troubles.
Was this how pathetic his dad was?The next day Tony sat on his desk near Steve's group of friends.
"My mom left" Steve muttered sadly.
His friends comforted him and told him it was going to be ok.Tony's eyes widened.
His mom.....and his dad.....left.
How strange was the fact that they both disappeared on similar dates. That only left one possible explanation.
Steve's mom and his dad were having an affair.
Right? The assumption was completely random and there wasn't really any evidence backing it up but still.....his father had been acting distant.
It had to be that.
Now it was up to him to help his mom.
He decided to be the best in school and excel in every subject. Now they were in seventh grade.
Steve became an 'idiot' in Tony's eyes.
His brain was filled with just Peggy and it was frustrating. It was almost as if those months they spent together never happened."You didn't do your part?!" Tony yelled in frustration.
"No...but Peggy really needed it so....." he scratched his head.
Peggy was no where near interested in him, why was it so hard to move on?!Tony sighed and turned away, it didn't affect his grade so much but still, the sight of a B minus on his paper irritated him.
"You're such an idiot!" Tony yelled.
"Me?! You mispronounced gentlemen!" Steve argued back.A few years passed and Steve changed....completely.
He hit puberty! He grew taller, stronger, and as much as it annoyed him he had to admit he was a good looking guy."Tony!" His voice echoed through the hall, "let me copy your work"
"No" Tony rolled his eyes and kept walking.
"Come on man, I'm failing the class, they could grade cut me from the team"
"Maybe if you did your work you'd actually learn something, Cap" Tony shot back.
"Are you calling me an idiot?" Steve glared.
"No...but I wouldn't be wrong if I did"
"What-"It's not so hard Steve" Bruce intervened the heated discussion, "I can help you"
Steve sighed and turned away, "no, I'll get it off some one else"
Tony felt a sense of guilt, memories of the lunches Steve provided filled his head.
But.....it's not like Steve remembered that anyway.
It bothered him for some reason.Three years later Steve's father passed away.
Now they were in 12th grade.Steve broke up with Peggy making a scene and his sudden interest in him was beyond unnatural.
"What are you up to?" Tony questioned curiously as he laid on his bed.
He wanted something.
What was it?
Why was he suddenly so nice to him.He never really payed attention to him.
Tony didn't mind his interest, what he did mind was the purpose behind it.He made Tony's stomach churn , he needed to know.
