"Emerald..." My voice trembled, but I kept on staring at the tall silhouette, half hidden by one of the large trees. "I know that in normal cases when you catch a stranger staring at you you run, but..." I hesitated. "What if that stranger has a strange pinkish glow surrounding them right after you drank a pinkish magical drink?" I kept staring at the stranger and my heart raced in my chest.
Emerald placed a hand on my shoulder and I could feel the heat coming off of her body when she followed my glance. "Are you sure you see that glow?"
I shrugged. "My eyes have never been that great, even with glasses, but I'm fairly certain there is a pink glow."
"Maybe you do have some witch blood in your system, because I don't see anything." Emerald stepped back.
I swallowed. "So, should I run from them or towards them?"
"I will text the guys to explain what's going on and I won't let you out of my sight." I felt her pushing me forward. "And now go, before they race away again for who knows how long."
I took a deep breath and I curled my fingers around the grip of my crutch. In my neck my veins pulsed loudly while I walked towards the stranger, still hiding behind the tree. With every step I came closer the fear that the stranger, who seemed to be a guy, would turn around and run from me worsened.
But the stranger stood perfectly still. He had his head cocked and his eyes glued on me. In a way he seemed familiar, more friend than stranger.
I blamed it on the spell until I was close enough to recognize him.
He was just as tall as I had always imagined him to be. The sunlight reflected on his golden hair and his blue eyes widened when I stood still only a few steps away from him. His jeans were torn, but the skin beneath them seemed unscratched. His jacket was covered in mud and dirt and now I stood close I saw the smudges on his face.
"What happened to you?" I rushed towards him, but he only stepped back when I came a little too close.
"Who are you?" He stuttered and he almost tripped over his own legs in his attempt to get away from me. "Do I know you?"
I shook my head. I knew him. At least, I knew the version of him I had seen on tv, but he couldn't know me. "I'm Anna."
Everyone else in town seemed to have known exactly who I was, but giving him my name didn't seem to ring a bell.
He shook his head and he visibly swallowed. "I shouldn't talk to strangers. Not now." He scratched the back of his neck, but didn't turn around or ran away even though he could easily outrun me if he would try. "It's too dangerous."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Dangerous?" I looked over my shoulder and saw that Emerald was still watching me.
She had promised that I was safe, that nothing could happen to me, that everyone was determined to make sure I had a good time.
But I had read the books. I knew that dangerous things did happen in Silver Springs. And sometimes not even three powerful vampires could keep their soulmate safe. I was certain that if danger was trying to find me it would find a way to get to me.
"Don't tell anyone you've seen me, please?" He almost pouted and then he finally seemed to break free from whatever had held him here. He turned around and started running.
"Isaac!" I cursed my legs and the crutch when I tried to run after him. "Isaac! Come back! Let me help you!"
He was however already out of sight and I didn't even know which way he had gone.
"Isaac! I promise I won't hurt you! I'd never hurt you!" I sighed and after a few minutes of waiting I eventually turned around to walk back to Emerald, still waiting patiently for me to return.
With or without soulmate.
