Everything was cold around her. She felt like freezing when she sat up from the cozy little blanket castle she built for herself. It was one in the morning and she was standing in front of her fully opened door, catching a stare from a pair of dark eyes. She focused on his eyes, which were darting back and forth, shining in the moonlight. Mesmerizing.
"What are you doing here?" her voice was cracking like crazy. She looked up at him, but no response. He was standing there staring at her, with sadness in his eyes, but a smile was drawn on his face. "Alexander, what happened?" she asked again.
"I thought I saw you in Parrot's Beak messing with the smoke alarm, but then I could hear the person's voice and it wasn't yours." Parrot's Beak, what an awful name for a night bar. "Plus you don't have a broken arm," he said, taking a step forward passing by her in her apartment.
"So you're here because...?" she waited for an answer as she saw him take off his shoes. It has been more than a month since Alex only called her when he was everything but sobber, and they really got close to each other. Their friends also got close. They hung out at least once in a few days, spending their time drinking, smoking, or singing and telling stories. He's been to her place multiple times, but he never came without telling her and at this hour.
"I brought drinks" he exclaimed pretending not to hear the question he was asked. He was acting stupid, ignoring everything Arabella had to ask. Of course, he brought whiskey, how could he not? What was surprising was that he also brought wine, which he didn't drink as often.
Arabella decided to stop asking questions for the moment and brought two glasses over to the small table sitting in front of her couch, where Alex was sitting. He looked lost in space, starring in abyss not even smiling anymore. She couldn't force him to speak because he would get mad. She already knew that he won't tell her if he doesn't want to, so she concealed her worried thoughts, sitting down next to him. He took the bottle with the amber-colored liquid and poured out on both glasses. He handed one glass to the woman next to him and then took the other for himself. winking at her before chugging the whole drink as if he was having shots. Afterward, the silence took over. Neither of them was saying anything, they were just looking away, ignoring each other's eyes. The silence of the room made her blood as cold as the autumnal air that crept through an open window. The silence was eerily unnatural, like dawn devoid of birdsong. Silence clung to them like a poisonous cloud that at any moment could choke the life from them. Silence seeped into their every pore, like a poison slowly paralyzing them from either speech or movement.
She stood up and grabbed her cigarettes heading towards the music player. She just put on the first song she found and grabbed one of her hoodies that were hanged right next to the balcony door. She put it on and looked over to Alexander who was looking at her confused. She made a small gesture with her head, letting him know that they are going to sit on the balcony. Of course, he followed her lead. It was not cold at all, maybe the breeze brought a small wave of chill. She sat own, waiting for him to do the same.
"Miles called me today" she spoke, grabbing a cigarette with her teeth next taking out her lighter she early found at Mardy's. Alex couldn't help but let out a chuckle. It was a bit surprising that Miles phoned her.
"Was he trying to hit up on you?" he already knew what he was doing. Miles was a flirt and since Bree ignored his pick-up lines, he undoubtedly tried his best with the other big flirt. They were just joking. Miles didn't forget that Alex told them that she was not "just a chick" for him, so he only flirted as a joke.
"It's kind of our tomfoolery now" she confessed, laughing at the thought of her joking around with Miles. Putting aside the jokes, Miles was actually a good friend. "He also told me that Matthew met up with Bree".
