sasha climbed back off her bike to face him. she didn't know weather to answer or actually ride away, so she stood there. his eyes scanned her quickly. she was wearing a gray hoodie and sweats.

"are you," he paused as he read the front of the book. "sasha banks?" he finishes as he looked back up at her. she nodded slowly. he looked older than her, but still young enough to be in school too. she watched as he came closer to her and she felt her a chill run down her spine from the amount of fear in her body. "well, i am sorry, here's your book back."

"t-thanks." she said lowly as she took the book from him. he watched as she shoved it into her bag.

"i'm seth."

"okay."

"you don't talk much, do you?"

"no."

"you live around here?"

"i go to school around here."

"oh, gladstone?"

"yep."

"me too," he said as he tucked his hands into his pockets. he could sense she was uncomfortable. "i'll uh, get out of here, you can have this place to yourself. i'll see you around." he waved as he walked in the opposite direction she came from.

she nodded and sat down on the rock that he was previously on. she waited until she could no longer see him and she screamed as loud as she could. today at school, sasha had been pushed, stepped on, she even had remarks made about her and she had, had enough. no, she was never going to say anything to anyone, but she still felt a ball of burning rage deep in her stomach.

"are you alright?" she heard from behind her making her jump. she turned to see seth once again. "look, i am not some crazy stalker guy, i just heard a scream and thought something bad happened."

"i'm fine. just had a little moment."

"oh, okay." he nodded. he walked past her slipped his shoes off and headed towards the dock. he rolled his pants up and dipped his feet into the water. "so, you new to portland?"

"yep, i'm from los angeles."

"oh, that's so cool, but a total downgrade. los angeles is so sunny, here it's all gloomy."

"i like it though, it's very soothing." she said with a small smile. he didn't know what it was about her, but he wanted to know more about her. seth did know that it was going to take a long time for that to happen though. he could tell she was very closed off.

"if you want, i could show you around sometime. i'm a junior, so i have a little experience." he chuckled and she nodded in understatement. he watched as she took out a book and opened it like he wasn't even there. she was reading 'to kill a mockingbird.' "that is a great book."

"i know, i have read it about seven times. probably my favorite behind the harry potter series." she said before quickly shutting her mouth. seth smiled. she liked harry potter. he loved it. "sorry."

"for what?"

"babbling. you don't care what my favourite book is."

"maybe i do."

"why would you? i am boring. look at me, i read books in the forest on my free time, i am clearly a loner with no friends," she paused as she turned the page in her book. "not to mention i'm quite ugly."

"what was that?"

"n-nothing." she sighed. not only was she closed off, but she unfairly insecure. even in these sweats she was easily one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen. maybe that's why he wanted to get to know her better. no one was this pretty and didn't know it. he wanted her to know it, he wanted her to believe it too.

"look, i do care, alright. i want to be friends."

"friends, seth, i never keep friends." she shrugged off his idea very quickly. he liked the way she said his name. it sounded so much better coming from her than it did anyone else he had ever heard before. he kicked around the water before pulling his feet out.

"maybe i can be a first."

"doubt it."

"i am never someone to be doubtful of. i always follow through with what i want."

"whatever you say, sir." she said with a sarcastic chuckle. he liked her, she seemed like the type of person he had been waiting for. sure, he was here on a football scholarship which meant girls left and right, but she was different. she made him think, she made him work for it and something about that was appetising.

"so, you like harry potter?"

"love it."

"so-"

"look, don't act like you like harry potter, i know you don't, so just leave it." he smirked at her certainty. she was so sure about everything she said, she was so sincere. it almost made it feel like a challenge. he pulled off his jacket that revealed his tatted arm. for a junior in college he had a lot of them.

"there it is. the hogwarts symbol. i don't about you, but tattoos are very important and i don't just get any. harry potter is significant to me believe it or not."

"okay, i guess, i was wrong." she said with a goofy little smile. he smiled back before hers quickly disappeared. he had only seen it once, but he would kill to see it again.

"i am going to get a bite, you wanna come?"

"seth, i already said, this friend thing isn't going to happen. plus, a guy like you probably has plenty. i am a loner and that is perfectly fine. you don't want to be friends with someone like me."

"what does that mean, someone like you? what, are you a murderer or something?"

"idiot." she mumbled as she shoved her book back into her bag and got back onto her bike. "thanks for not stealing my book." was all she said before she rode off into the trail she came from.
