Emily stepped into the cafe. It was actually pretty nice and she found herself wondering why she'd never come here before. The welcoming smell of coffee wafted through the air, calling her weary legs to take a rest. She spotted a few booths against the window. She walked to the nearest one and pressed herself against the window, feeling the warmth from the sun. She put her bag under her head and stared out the window.
It was really pretty on this side of town, not that she was actually far from the college. She just hasn't had a chance to stroll through the town. She looked out the window as people walked by on the sidewalk. A little girl ran ahead of her parents staring at all the buildings in awe. When she saw Emily, she gave a small wave and a smile and ran ahead to the next window. Emily smiled. People here were so nice.
The door bell jolted her from her thoughts. She looked up to see a familiar face walk through the door. She watched as he walked to the counter and ordered. His shirt lifted slightly as he pointed to the menu, making Emily blush. He finished ordering and leaned against the counter, pulling out his phone. Just then, Emily got a message.
Chan
I see you 👀
I see you too 👀
Emily looked up from her phone and waved. He gave a little wave back and smiled. After he got his order and paid, he made his way towards Emily. He set his coffee down gently on the table before plopping down on the other side of the booth with a sigh. His head rested against the window for a few seconds.
Emily just laughed. Chan got up, sitting correctly, and grabbed his coffee. He pulled sugar packs from his pocket and dropped them on the table. He started opening them one by one and dumping them in his coffee.
"Do you just carry those with you everywhere?" Emily asked.
"No. I grabbed them while I was waiting for coffee." Chan replied.
"I didn't see you get any."
"Okay. Maybe I carry a few packs- Wait, you were watching me? Oh my gosh. Stalker."
Emily's cheeks turned bright red but she covered it with laughter. Chan emptied the last pack of sugar in his coffee and added the trash to his pile. He ran his fingers through his hair, sighed, and took a gulp of coffee. Emily could see the instant regret on his face. Even Emily knew the coffee was scorching hot and she wasn't even holding the drink. Smoke was steaming out of the cup.
"It's been a long day." He said, glaring at his coffee. "Anyway, What brings you to this side of town?"
"I was just exploring, I guess. What about you?"
"Are you kidding? I come to this cafe everyday. They practically know me by name here." He turned towards the nearest worker. "Isn't that right?"
"I have no idea who you are." The worker replied as he walked past our table.
"He's new." Chan said.
"I own this cafe." The worker yelled behind him, still walking to the counter.
"You're ridiculous." Emily laughed.
She slid to the end of the booth and got up. Her hair got caught under her bag as she threw it over her shoulder, so she adjusted the bag and moved her hair out of the way. The sunlight hit it as it fell, making it look lighter than normal. She reached for the empty sugar packets.
