"Leave me the fuck alone!"
"I won't until you admit you're cheating on me!"
"You're fucking crazy for thinking that!"
"I saw her!"
Sighing, Acacia placed her headphones on and blasted music from her phone to drown out the yelling. It was nights like these where she wished she had moved out a long time ago, but staying with her parents was free, so she stayed put.
With her music playing, she couldn't hear the shouting, the shattering, the doors slamming, the slaps. She could pretend, at least just for tonight, that everything was fine in her home and that nothing was going on in their family.
On top of that, her brother had knocked up 5 of his classmates
Some days, Acacia wanted to know how she was related to any of these people, and if she even was. Because it seemed to her that out of everyone, she was the most normal one. But God forbid she said a word of that out loud to them, because then they'd go after her instead of each other.
So as she'd learned to do, Acacia just kept to herself. She doesn't say much when they're in a bad mood or if they're fucking each other, which is all the time, and if they do speak to her, it's for a few minutes.
She fell asleep a few hours later, when everything was quiet, and the next morning, she sat at the table quietly as she ate her breakfast with her family. They were all silent, and she had no doubt that her parents were still fuming from last night. Acacia sat across from her brother as her parents sat at each end of the table. Nobody said a word and a few minutes later, her father spoke up.
"Yiós, I'm very disappointed in you. You knocked up not only one girl, but five. How do you expect to take care of all of them? And what about their families? How do you think they're dealing with all of this? These girls are barely children themselves and now they're going to have children."
Her brother, Alexei, sighed heavily. His gray brown eyes were casted down to his waffles, the feeling of shame coursing through is heart. He was indeed with five girls at once, having the reputation of a fuckboy in his high school. But because of that, he got them all pregnant, causing him to be a father before he was even 18.
"And you, kóri, what are you doing with your life? You do not have a job anymore, and the reason you don't is because of... what did the paper say? Oh yes, you were trying to seduce your boss."
Acacia furrowed her eyebrows. "That's not true. I would never do that and you know it."
"But they are the human resources. They wouldn't say anything that isn't true."
"But they lied about me seducing my boss. You honestly are going to believe them over me?"
Ismena, the mother, glanced at her father. "Well, at least we know that sleeping around runs in the family. First, my husband and then my kids."
Ares, the father, slammed his hands on the table. "I told you I'm not cheating on you!"
"And I told you that I have seen the evidence that you are!"
Acacia made eye contact with her brother, who looked upset. She held out her hand to him and took it. They both held on tight as their parents began to fight again. Their father ended up leaving the house and their mother went to her room, leaving Acacia and Alexei alone. Acacia let go of her brother's hand and motioned for him to follow her into the living room. They sat down and he immediately curled up into her chest.
"I'm sorry, adelfí. I'm so sorry."
Her heart broke when she heard his sobs. She knew he meant it and that he didn't want any of this to happen. She closed her eyes and a single tear escaped her eye.
"It's okay. I'm here and I'll help you every step of the way. Don't you worry."
Acacia was very protective of her brother and would do anything for him, even if it meant causing a rift in their family
