"Welcome to Outer Banks, darling." Anna Carrera smiled gleamingly as she stood in the doorway of Kennedy's new bedroom, watching the New York blonde gaze around the large guest room. Kennedy smiled at her softly. "I know this isn't where you want to be spending your summer, but we really are so happy to have you here. Think of it as less of a punishment and more of a vacation." Anna gleamed one last time before shutting the bedroom door and leaving the young girl to herself.

Kennedy huffed before plopping onto her new king-sized bed, staring at the bright white painted ceiling. As much as Kennedy wished she could think of this as a vacation, nothing about the Outer Banks was appealing to her. For months, she'd been planning her summer in the Upper East Side. A summer filled with lavish parties, rich college boys, and endless days laying out by the country club pool. But this, Outer Banks, was nothing near that. Sure, for some people, OVX is a vacation, but for Kennedy, it was just a pool of tragic memories and dirty, eerie water. Physically and metaphorically.

The highest class of Outer Banks couldn't even measure up to what Kennedy knew and breathed in New York, and she couldn't help but continue to dwell on that fact.

"Princess, we're going on a boat ride." The irritated voice of Kiara Carrera interrupted Kennedy's thoughts. She shot up from her relaxed position on her bed and looked toward her cousin. Kiara stood in the doorway with long dark curly hair that framed her tanned face. They had both grown and changed a lot since the last time they saw each other. When they were both twelve years old, right after Kennedy's mother, also Anna's sister, passed away, the Carreras took a trip to New York to stay with the Ross'.  To say the two girls did not get along was an understatement. Both with their polar opposite, stubborn personalities, the family expected the world to end before either of them would be friendly to the other.

"Boat ride? Like a yacht?" Kennedy piped up, tucking a strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. Ki rolled her eyes before turning around and beginning to head down the stairs of her home.

"Sure, now, come on." Ki grumbled. Kennedy stood up quickly readjusting her white tube top and green floral skirt and tying up the laces of her shoes before following behind her cousin.

"How've you been?" Kennedy inquired to Kiara as she followed her hurriedly down the path toward the boat launch.

"Just dandy." Kiara smiled sarcastically.

"I heard you changed schools." Kennedy spoke up after a few second of silence.

"Look," Ki stopped in her tracks, turning to the thin blonde. "My mom asked me to bring you around with me, not tell you all about my life. So, don't bother me, and I won't bother you." Kennedy stood stunned as Kiara began to walk towards a boat that was pulling up towards the deck.

"Oh, top o' the mornin' to ya." A male voice echoed from the boat, drawing Kennedy's attention. She continued following her cousin, which led to a boat with three teenage boys on it.
