When Grayson Dolan saw the autopsy report of Antoinette May Clark, he thought he'd never see something more heartbreaking than that. The body of a once vibrant girl now discarded like trash. Her mangled body buried just slightly under shrubbery of the forest floor.
Now, as he looked before him, the body of a once missing Cassie Adams showed striking similarities to the way poor Antoinette was found. Discarded like trash, their killer seemed as if he wanted their broken, bruised, battered and beaten bodies to be found. Covered just slightly with shrubbery and forest floor. However unlike Antoinette who was found amongst dense trees by old Eddy Richmond who was out looking for his cattle dog - Cassie was placed in a more populated area. Just off the side of the hiker's trail.
She'd been dumped down by the steady stream that flowed gently under the old wooded bridge. Noticed by Ellie and Todd Zimmerman on their morning hike. Calling local police when Todd snuck off the trail to get a closer look at the heap that he'd soon realise was local missing girl Cassie.
Now Grayson stood quietly looking down at her body, his heart breaking yet again for another family who'd lost a child. It was always the hardest part of his job.
"Yeah there's definite signs of a struggle here Gray, blood and stuff under the nails, scratch marks which could indicate retaliation," Ethan explained, designated forensic specimen in the case he'd been the one working side by side with the coroner. "We'll have to examine her in more detail back at the lab, fucking heartbreaking though."
Grayson snapped a few more photos before he let out a sigh. Looking around to see such beauty, how could something so sinister happen here. As he allowed his mind to wonder he noticed his team cautioning the area. Yellow tap going up to Mark the newly found crime sense. His eyes following the line of tap that lead over to Y/n, taking witnesses accounts from Ellie and Todd Zimmerman.
"Did either of you touch the body?" She asked softly. Notepad in hand as she questioned the brother and sister who looked to be both in their early 20's.
"I did" Todd conferences. His eyes looking over Y/n's shoulder watching Ethan and a few others place the deceased girl into a black body bag as carefully as they could.
"We'll need you to come down to the precinct with us to take your fingerprints alright? Just to rule your out if they show up during examination." She explained. "Now, do either of you know Cassie personally?"
"I knew of her, but I didn't know her personally, she was a pretty quiet girl from what I remember people saying. Didn't have many friends" Ellie was in shock. She'd never seen a dead body before nor did she ever think she'd stumble upon one. Especially in such a small town like this.
"Thank you for your time, I'll have one of the detectives take you back to the precinct for those fingerprints and a few more questions—" Y/n concluded her initial interview with a soft smile. This part of the job never got any easier. Seeing the life from living people get sucked right from within them after having seen such horror.
"Detective Dolan do you think Cassie was uh—was murdered or—" Ellie's voice was soft and fragile. Curious as to who may have hurt the lonely girl.
"I can't comment sw—"
"DETECTIVE DOLAN!!" a voice called from down by the water's edge. Both Grayson and Y/n replying almost identically with a single:
