Taking Care of Things

I wake up in a room that I don't recognise. I panic for a second, before remembering the events of yesterday. I'm in Lucy's apartment. I'm fine. I get up, still in the clothes I was wearing yesterday. I walk through the door. 'Lucy?' I ask into the empty corridor.

'Over here!' Comes the reply from behind a door. I go in. It's a kitchen, and Lucy's reading while eating breakfast. He looks up from his book. 'Morning, sleeping beauty!'

'Coffee.' I say tiredly. A cup of coffee materialises, along with some buttered toast. I sit down and eat. He waves his hand in front of my face. 'Hey, earth to Aki! I said what do you wanna wear today?'

'I don't know, nor do I care.' A massive dick costume materialises on my body. I roll my eyes. 'Never mind. Jeans, T-shirt, hoodie.'

'Consider it done.' He says, the clothes materialising onto my body.

'Thanks.' I finish drinking my coffee, and head into the bathroom to brush my teeth. By the time Lucy's dragging me out of the house, I feel slightly more awake. We head into work, where Laura and Martin already are.

'Hi guys.' Laura says, sipping angrily on a coffee.

'Hey bitches!' Martin yells.

'A morning person, I see.' I laugh. 'Can't say the same.'

'Me too. Mornings are the worst.' Laura complains as Marco walks in.

'Ay, looking kind of down in the dumps, huh? Cheer up.' He says, putting a hand on Laura's back.

I give her a look. 'Another one.' We laugh.

'We're just waiting on Joseph, then.' Lucy sighs. 'Always late, that man.'

'I don't know what is with him.' Martin shakes his head.

'Wishing he was Iron Man again, eh?' Marco laughs. I look to Lucy, confused.

'Stalin means 'Man of Steel', not Iron.' Says a familiar Russian accent. It clicks. This is Joseph Stalin!

'Alright, let's commence.' Lucy says. 'First of all, Joseph, how's the turnout for this month?'

'Steady as always sir, no one's slacking, clearly.'

'Good, monitor the stats for the monthly appliances. We have a long waiting list, we might need to take out more overseers.'

'Copy that.'

'Laura, any significant changes in the finances department?'

'Nothing to report, Lucy.'

'Awesome. Marco, anything I should be made aware of in PR?'

'Nah, we're fine.'

'Martin. Any cases for me?'

'Only one; I scheduled them in for tomorrow at 1pm.'

'Great, I can take Aki with me so he can get a taste of his responsibilities. Ok, dismissed.' As they filed out, he leaned back in his chair. 'Ok, Aki, today is a rare day with no cases.'

'What does that mean?'

'Do you understand anything about what just happened?'

'Not really.'

'Okay, well, Joseph monitors the movement of people into hell, and their movement through the ranks, as well as the product of the forced labour workers.'

'Okay.'

'Laura manages finances, and will let me know at any huge expenses, or gains.'

'Marco?'
