The next day, I wake up next to something warm. I look up, it's Lucy. He looks so cute when he's asleep. I try to move away without waking him up, but he stirs and opens his eyes.
'Morning Aki.' He sits up and stretches, yawning. I stumble out of bed. 'Morning.' I mumble.
'Someone needs some coffee.' He hands me a cup of coffee out of thin air. I take it and drink it all in one go.
'Jeez.' He laughs. 'Our case is set for 1pm, and it's like 9am right now. We have time for you to wake up.'
'Good.' Is all I say as I stumble into the bathroom. 'Towel.' I say tiredly. He passes me one. I take a cold shower and brush my teeth, feeling a lot more awake by the end of it. I step out of the bathroom, greeted by the scent of pancakes.
'Pancakes!' I yell excitedly. He laughs, and gestures for me to sit down. I take a pancake and pour maple syrup all over it.
'Wow, that's a lot of maple syrup.'
'I like maple syrup.' I say, quietly.
He chuckles. 'You're so cute.'
I feel my cheeks heat up. Oh, the familiar feeling of false hope, why must you do this? I don't say anything, just start eating the pancake.
'Isn't it crazy that we only met, like, a week ago?' I think aloud.
'That is actually kind of insane.' He smiles. I smile back. We go back to a comfortable silence. I nod towards the Nutella, he passes it.
'See, we've got like, a psychic connection already.'
'That's cause I can read your thoughts, dumbass.'
'Noo! It's a psychic connection!'
'Okay, fine. It's a psychic connection.'
'Yeah!' I say excitedly.
He chuckles. 'Shall we go to the park before our case?'
'Oh my god, yes. That place is amazing.'
'Alright, ready when you are.'
'Let's go then!' I stand up, pulling him up with me so vigorously that we spin around a little. He doesn't let go of my hand as we go to the door. I feel my face go red, but I pull him out of the door as quickly as possible. He laughs, materialising shoes onto our feet as we run.
'Slow down, we aren't in a rush.' He chuckles, pulling me back. I roll my eyes. He brushes a lock of my hair back, and seems to hesitate before looking ahead again. I'm at a loss for words, if I try to speak I will die. We keep walking, hand in hand, down the stairwell and out onto the street, towards the park in the sunlight. It's so pretty here in hell, it feels almost magical.
'It is magical, technically.'
'Is it?' I finally remember how to speak.
'Yeah, if you consider my powers magical.'
'Yer a wizard 'Arry!'
'I'm a what?' He says in an over- the- top British accent.
'A wizard!' We laugh. 'Why are you walking so slow, let's go!'
'Why are you so impatient?' He chuckles, picking up the pace. 'You know, I heard that when people are with someone they care about, they walk slower.'
'Or they're just being lazy asses.' I say, letting go of his hand. As soon as I do, I want to hold it again, but it would be so obvious I liked him then. Wow, I'm literally twenty. Why am I still thinking like a teenager in a high school movie?
