Madeleine sighed when she got home from work. She hadn't seen Derek in days, and he was ignoring all her texts. His things had suddenly disappeared the previous night, without even a note saying goodbye. Madeleine felt like they were finally starting to connect, and then he just began to ghost her. Literally, he was living with her! She wasn't sure what else to do at this point, if he wasn't answering his phone he was virtually unreachable. She knew he wouldn't go back to his house in the Preserve, so she didn't even know where to begin to look.

Madeleine was also beginning to feel very lonely. She was friendly with her coworkers, but her only real friends still were Stiles and Scott, if they even counted. She hadn't seen them in days either, but at least Stiles would reply to her text messages. She wasn't sure how to make adult friends in this town; the only club in town seemed like it attracted middle aged deadbeats and not much else. She and Nathan had agreed to go out and get drinks sometime, but that was a week ago and it hadn't been brought up again.

Madeleine's phone began to ring and Stiles' name popped up on her screen. "Hey Stiles."

"Hey! Want to come over and help me with some school stuff?"

"Gross, you're asking me to be your tutor?" Madeleine laughed. "I'm a lawyer Stiles. I'm guessing you don't take law at your public high school?"

"C'mon Madeleine, I know you're not doing anything." He was right, she wasn't. She was sitting on her couch playing solitaire before he called. "Please?"

"Ugh. Fine."

"See you soon!" Stiles hung up. Madeleine rolled her eyes but she was secretly glad he called. She was finally getting to hang out with a friend, even if it was a gangly high schooler.

Madeleine pulled up to Stiles' house a few minutes later. She knocked on the door and was greeted by the Sheriff, Stiles' dad.

"Hi, Mr. Stilinski?" She greeted. "I'm Madeleine, I'm a friend of Stiles'."

"Hello," he eyed her warily. "What are you doing spending time with my son? You look way too beautiful to give him the time of day."

Madeleine laughed. "I'm new to town, I bumped into him and Scott when I first got here. Sad that my first and only friends here are high schoolers, but true."

The Sheriff chuckled. "Wait, how old are you?"

"I'm 23," Madeleine said. "I'm a lawyer at Whittemore & Associates."

"Impressive," he said. "Well, nice to meet you Madeleine. Go on upstairs, Stiles is the last door on the right."

"Thank you," she smiled. "Should I call you Sheriff?"

"Sheriff, Stilinski, Noah, it's all the same to me." He laughed.

"Well, thanks. Noah." Madeleine felt weird calling him that for some inexplicable reason. Maybe she'd stick with Sheriff. He just smiled and Madeleine walked upstairs to Stiles' room. "Hey, kid."

"What's up?" Stiles said as she walked in. He was currently playing some video game on his computer with a lightsaber tucked under his arm.

"Not as much as you, clearly," she laughed. "Why do you need my help for homework? Don't you get straight A's?"

"No, gay A's." Stiles cackled. "Kidding. I was just bored and figured you'd be too."

"Aww." Madeleine couldn't decide if that was sweet or sad. "Hey, have you heard from Derek recently? I haven't seen him in days and he isn't answering my texts."

"Really? That's weird, I thought he was super into you."

"Yeah, me too." Madeleine looked down to the ground.
