Chapter 14

We were in the car and Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beetles came on.

"Ughhh the Beetles"Dally complained. I laughed.

"Did you know this song is about drugs, shrooms to be exact"I stated. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Beetles but I liked some of their songs. He looked at me like I was crazy. "I'm just sayin" Simone laughed then the boys started laughing then I did. Dal stopped laughing and focused on the road. We were getting close and I smelled something burning.

"You guys smell that too?"Simone asked and we all nodded our heads. We looked over and the church was burning. Dally parked in the grass. Johnny was the first one to jump out.

"Johnny!"dally yelled to him. I put my hands to jump out of the car. "Don't you dare Brooke"he pleaded. I jumped out and ran after Johnny. I heard someone yell that there were kids still in there. Johnny went in and I followed. Next thing I knew ponyboy and Simone were behind us. Johnny and I were picking kids up and giving them to Pony and Simone who gave them to Dally. Dally was yelling at us to get out. Johnny and I could barley hear him but there were two kids left. Us being stubborn we wanted to save them. When we had an idea in our head we persued it. I saw Dally drag Simone and Pony out. I grabbed the kids and threw them out and Simone caught them. I grabbed Johnny and hugged him tightly while jumping out of the collapsing building. I felt something burning on my body. next thing i saw was black.

I woke up to bright lights. I squinted and tried to see where I am. I looked around and I saw three figures standing around me.

"Where am I and why is it so bright?"I asked trying to sit up. Wrong move. i hissed in pain and Darry layed me back down.

"You're not moving"Darry said with tears in his eyes. i looked at him with tears threatening to fall. As soon as he saw my eyes he started to sob and put his head on my chest saying how sorry he was for calling me a whore or what not.

"Dar that same day I forgave you. I could never stay mad at you or anyone in the gang." I said trying not to cry. He smiled and SOda came over and gently but tightly gave me a hug.

"Oh my god Brooke I was going insane without you here. Simone and Dally wouldn't tell me where you or Ponyboy were. Hell I had a panic attack when we couldn't find you. Last time I had a panic attack was when Sandy moved away."he rambled. That last two sentences broke me. I started to sob into Soda. He petted my hair and whispered that its ok and that he was fine. Then Darry joined the hug then Ponyboy did. "I thought I'd lose you like i did when you left. I know superman won't admit it but he cried once you left" he said looking between Darry and me wiping his tears away. I looked at ponyboy and he was a mess. Ash in his hair blood on him. Poor boy looked sick.

"Ponyboy please sit down you look sick hun"I said looking at him with my puppy dog eyes. It wins all of the boys over. He sighed and sat down on one of the hospital chairs. Then I came to realization. "Hows Johnny doing? Simone? Dally?"I asked worried. Soda sighed.

"Johnny is as bad as you are but he got his back. Simone isn't that bad shes got a few burns her and there but she just needs rest. Same with Dal but he's right next to you"Soda explained and I sighed in relief but was mad at myself for not saving Johnny in time. I tried to adjusting myself into a comfortable level but it hurt too much. A nurse came in saying visiting hours were over. They all kissed me on the head and left. After they left I fell asleep.

I woke up to footsteps near my bed. I shot my eyes open trying to adjust to the darkness. I saw a figure limping closer to me.

"Hey sugar"Dally said almost falling to get to me.

"Jesus Dal I thought you were some creep or something" I said slightly laughing but regretting it immediately because I coughed. He let out a husky laugh.

"Let me get the bed closer to you"he said knowing he couldn't cuddle with me because I was too hurt.

"Dally I don't think that's the best thing to do you're hurt baby"I said worried that he was going to do something stupid.

"I don't care Brooke I'm gonna sleep right next to you and you're gonna like it."he said coldly but I knew there was a lot of emotion behind it. He got in the closet and got out a cot I didn't even know was in there and stretched it out next to my bed. He carefully laid in the cot and grabbed a blanket that was there too. How the hell was he getting this stuff. I felt him grab my hand and squeeze it lightly. I smiled and squeezed back. After an hour or so I couldn't fall asleep and neither could Dallas. Suddenly I heard him sing a song he sang everyday when his mom died.

"At my door the leaves are fallin"he sang. He has a beautiful singing voice. He would only sing in front of me and maybe Johnny, but I know he sings to me a lot. "The cold wild wind will come. Sweethearts walk by together"He sang and I tapped along cause it would hurt. "And I still miss someone" "I go out on a party, and look for a little fun" he took a breath "But I find a darkened corner"

"Cause I still miss someone"I managed to croak out and sing with him. He sat up and looked me in the eyes admiring them.

"Oh, no I never got over those blue eyes, I see them everywhere"I smiled and so did he. "I miss those arms that held me, when all the love was there"he sang and kissed me. I didn't hesitate to kiss back. He broke us apart to finish the song. "I wonder if she's sorry, for leavin what we'd begun" "there's someone for me somewhere" "And I still miss someone" he finished up the song and kissed me one more time. "Goodnight Brooklyn I love you more than anything"he said while laying back down on the cot.

"I love you too Dallas"I managed to get out. I really wanted water but I couldn't walk and I was tired. So I just laid there holding Dally's hand and drifting off to sleep. I wouldn't trade him or the gang for anything.
