Shadow

Part 1

A silver car drove up to the large house up the hill. In the car was a male red echidna wearing a green sweatshirt and sweat pants driving, a female white bat wearing a pink shirt with red jeans but one of her wings was wrapped in bandages, and finally in the back was a male black and red hedgehog wearing a rain coat and blue jeans.

The black hedgehog looked out the window and saw a sign in front of the house. It reads: Knothole Palace. The hedgehog sighed as he saw the moving truck driving behind him.

"I can hear you sighing back there Shadow. What's wrong?" The bat asked.

"I just can't believe the G.U.N is moving us all the way out here. I don't see why we couldn't stay in our apartment." The hedgehog spoke.

"Believe me, this move annoys me just as much as it does you. I'm even farther away from the Master Emerald than I was when we were living in our apartment." The echidna commented.

"Stop complaining boys. At least we each get more space to ourselves. Bigger rooms, bigger bathrooms, and there tons on unused garden area in front of the house Shadow. You can finally have a place to plant whatever you want. And stop worrying about the Master Emerald Knuckles, it's locked up tight at the G.U.N main headquarters." The bat said.

"But now there making me go to some stupid high school. I know enough about fighting and battle strategies to work as an agent. It's not like I don't know how to read!" Shadow spoke annoyed.

"But you don't have a real full curriculum education or good social skills. You get those things from maturing in high school. You never know, maybe you'll end up liking it?" Rouge explained.

Shadow just shook his head and stared at the house.

"Alright, let's get this day over with. I'll start unloading boxes and bringing them inside." Knuckles said turning off the car.

"I'll start unpacking the boxes and put things away." Rouge said and looked at Shadow. She saw that he was still annoyed and still staring at the house. "Shadow, we don't you take a walk around the area. Map out the area and see if you mind anything interesting. Just go cool off and then come back and help."

"Fine." Shadow said.

All three got out of the car and began there parts.

Shadow watched the moving truck people help Knuckles and Rouge with the numerous boxes. Then he walked to the large garden space.

'Rouge was right about one thing. There is plenty of gardening space.' He thought and saw a red leafed bush. He picked up a stick from the bush with his gloveless hand. As he walked he dragged the stick against the trail he was talking and through other dead looking bushes.

He heard a twig snap.

He swiftly turned his head, but he saw no one.

"Whoever is there, show yourself!" Shadow exclaimed.

The area was silent.

Shadow rolled his eyes and looked around one more time. Then a muddy clearing was a few steps away. He walked out once he saw a circle of mushrooms. He gave a confused look. 'Why are they grown like this?' He thought.

"Chao!" A high pitched voice squeaked.

Shadow flinched and turned to the voice. He saw a little blue Chao fluttering behind him. "Where did you come from?" Shadow asked.

"Chao! Chao!" It squeaked some more.

Suddenly a pair of hands gripped on Shadow's shoulders from behind.

Shadow gasped in shock and turned quickly.

He found a chuckling blue hedgehog wearing a black jacket and light blue jeans. "Haha! Did I scare ya Shads!" He chuckled.

"Of course not hedgehog! What are you even doing here?" Shadow exclaimed with a embarrassed blush on his face.

"First, my name is Sonic remember? Second, my uncle Chuck lives around here. And I was also looking for Hero, A wild that I take care of when I visit my uncle." Sonic explained. "So what are you doing here?"

"The G.U.N moved Rouge, Knuckles, and I here." Shadow answered.

"Really? Where?" Sonic asked.

"Knothole Palace." Shadow replied.

Sonic looked a little shocked. "Knothole Palace? The big house with the huge garden area?"

"Yeah why?"

"My uncle owns that house, he doesn't usually allow hedgehogs to live there. Even though he's a hedgehog himself." Sonic said.

"Why is that?" Shadow asked.

"Ugh, I'm not sure. He really doesn't talk about much." Sonic answered as he started to pet the Chao.

Shadow sighed as he stepped into the circle of mushrooms without thinking.

"Hey careful!" Sonic exclaimed as he grabbed Shadow's arm, not letting him take another step.

"Get your hands off of me Sonic!" Shadow yelled as he fought out of his grip. He was even swinging around the stick in his hand.

"I was trying to save you from drowning in a well!" Sonic rebuttals and let go of the thrashing hedgehog.

"What are you talking about?" Shadow asked.

Sonic walked to the circle and kneeled. He used his gloved hands to wipe away a layer of mud. It revealed a wooden circle. "This is the old well. The deepest one around here. I didn't want you to fall in. What kind of friend would I be if I let you drown?"

Shadow crossed his arms as he looked away from the kind hedgehog male. He blushed a little. "You're not my friend, we're acquaintances at most."

"Sonic!" An old man voice echoed.

"Sounds like someone is calling you." Shadow said.

"Sonic!" The voice echoed again.

"That's uncle Chuck. I better go see what he wants." Sonic said.

Shadow looked at the well as he gripped the stick in his hand.

"Oh and the next time you decide to pick up a random stick, I would wear gloves next time." Sonic added.

"And why is that?" Shadow asked.

"Cause that stick your holding his poison oak." Sonic answered.

Shadow's eyes widened as he instantly dropped the stick.

Sonic chuckled as he did. "I'll see you later Shadow. Now that you leave around here, I'll visit a lot more." Sonic said and winked. Then he zoomed off.

Shadow scoffed and saw the Hero staring at him.

The Chao shook his head and flew after Sonic.

"Great, this move just keeps getting worse." Shadow sighed as he eyed the well. He grabbed a pebble and kneeled to the well. He found a hole in the wood and dropped the pebble through the hole. He leaned his ear closer to the well and after a minute he heard a splash.

Suddenly it started to rain. 'Guess it's time to head back.' He thought as he pulled his rain coats hoodie over his head.
