(Later that night)

The trio of friends were at the dinner table while Knuckles serving what he had made for dinner. "This is an echidna family recipe that is supposed to boost your strength." Knuckles bragged as he scooped up a square of it and slapped it on Shadow's plate.

The food made Shadow turn his nose up and give a disgusted face. "Question, why do we let Knuckles cook?" Shadow asked eyeing Rouge.

"We've been over this Shadow. We all decided to divide up work for the house stays in order while Knuckles and I do our work and when you start school. Knuckles cooks, I clean, and you focus on school work." Rouge spoke. She also scooped up a pile of burned looking green mush on Shadow's plate. "And eat the chard, you need a vegetable."

Shadow picked up his fork and tried to pick up the slop bust it slid threw the forks spaces. "It's hard to eat if all of it looks like slime."

"If all you're are going to do is complain about my cooking than either eat or go to bed. Because you're getting on my nerves." Knuckles spat.

Shadow pulled his doll out of his pocket and looked at it. "You think they're trying to poison me?" He asked the doll. He made the doll nod. "I agree, then I'm going to bed." Shadow spoke and left the table.

Shadow walked to his room and changed into a white tank top and red plaid pj pants. Once he was changed, he laid down on his bed. He hasn't done much to decorate. He made a closet of clothes, a chest of other belongs, three plush toys he had recovered from the ark, and a picture of Maria and Professor Gerald Robotnik in an old beat up picture frame on his nightstand beside his bed. The glass in the frame even had a crack in it.

Shadow picked up the picture and ran his finger over it. He let out a sigh. "I really do miss you guys. You were my real family. The one I have know drive me nuts." He said and put the picture back. He took out his doll and sat it next to him. He took a look at his poison oak rash and scratched it.

Shadow finally pulled his blanket over himself and closed his eyes. He slowly drifted off to sleep.

(A few hours later)

Shadow's eyes twitched as he heard a high pitched squeaking. His eyes opened and he rubbed them. Then he heard the squeak again.

He looked around and heard the squeak again. He looked under his bed and found a white plump hopping mouse. The mouse hopped away and out of of his room.

Shadow decided to follow it. He chased it down the stairs and into the room with the small door. The mouse went behind the small door. Shadow opened the door and it revealed a low violet and dark blue tunnel.

Shadow watched as the mouse when down into the tunnel and escaped through the opening at the end it. Shadow's curiosity out the best of him and he went in. He crawled on all fours and after crawling for a few minutes he made it to the end. He entered the small door at the end of the tunnel.

He finally stood outside the tunnel to see the same room that he just left. He looked around and everything looked the same. "What's going on? I don't get it." He asked confused.

Suddenly his nose caught a smell. A very good smell. He sniffed the air and his stomach rumbled. He decided to follow it and he ended up in the kitchen. He spotted his bat big sister in a black dress with white polka dots. But she had her back facing him. Also, her wing wasn't bandaged anymore.

"Rouge? What are doing here in the middle of the night?"

The bat turned around and smiled. But her eyes were black buttons! No teal eyes, just black buttons. "You're just in time for dinner hun."
