Chapter 3

By the time their first challenge ended, it was pretty obvious that they understood nuts about each other as evident by the fact that they had only gotten four out of ten questions right. They were second last. The challenge had ended about ten minutes ago and they were allowed to return to their chalets. The losing team had been the Brown Couple. They had scored one point less than them. It should have made Alyson relieved but the fact that the Brown Couple was a real couple already held more threat to them as they have a chance to get farther than them in the future challenges. There was always the chance that they had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Even now, Alyson could see Vanessa and Zach whispering as they head down to the ocean. Regrouping and strategizing maybe.

"That was horrible."

Alyson glanced at Lucas. It was the first time that he had said anything since the game had ended. They were stopped at the entrance of the chalet and Lucas removed the keys form his pockets and unlocked the door. They entered and she moved to kitchen to get a glass of ice water for herself and Lucas before dumping herself on one of the spare cushions. She passed the glass to Lucas as he moved to sit opposite her.

"Okay, how much do you want to win this game?" he asked.

Alyson sipped her glass of ice water, "Is it materialistic to say pretty much?"

He smiled. "No. I'm great we're on the same grounds. I want to win this 'pretty much' too. Now, that we've started, I think I understand the spirit of game shows. You can't help but feel competitive even when you don't plan too. I've been thinking, let's see how this next four days pan out and slowly come up with a plan to do well. Meanwhile, I have a feeling we really need to have a better understanding of each other instead of plain facts should the next challenge require understanding again."

"I totally agree with that as for now we need to wait and see if we are voted out first," Alyson grimaced. "That would totally suck."

Lucas leaned forward and urged her forward - almost as if he wanted to kiss her - and whispered in her ear, "We can't mention anything about us being not really together. Do you notice the cameras at the back of you on the ceiling corner as well as several places around the living room and kitchen?"

With that, he leaned back again back, toasted his ice water towards her and smirked, "Yes. That would totally suck."

All contestants are required to put on the provided clothes and move to the beach for dinner and something special.

"What did they give you?"

"Another beach shorts and a simple tee this time. Do they have a perverse pleasure of dressing all of us as beach bums?"

Alyson smothered a laugh. It was difficult imagining Lucas as a beach bum. Even in beach shorts, he still looked polished. As if he had been born to cut some business deals in shorts. Which made her wonder, what did he do for a living exactly? She knew he had to have some sort of connection to the company that could financially back Kensington Media but what connection exactly, she wasn't sure.
