Schnorrer ... I think it's not English? I guess it means someone who wheedles people do things for his/her own benefits. Hehe ... I forgot. And as you can see, we're currently switching the tense. I decided to make it in past tense since it's a flashback. {{neko hiraite}}

Part SIX

And the Schnorrer Moves

Meanwhile, his strong willed mother rushed to him. She seemed determined and serious, as always, and had something she wanted to tell. She wanted her son join her go to another place where they can meet her son's old friend.

She said it was urgent, and she wanted to get there as soon as possible.

Because of this, her son looked worried and mystified. It might be because he thought there was something wrong with his old friend, or maybe something formidable happened. Then he pictured that friend of his and he got convinced.

Sure enough, the two traveled into a foreign place, where sorcery is everywhere, and where people were raised to be independent and strong.

They arrived at a grandiose doorstep, a very huge and magnificent mansion with equally sublime features.

Incidentally, it is where illustrious and eminent people in that place dwell. Furthermore, it's his old friend who basically owned the resplendent mansion before them.

They were cordially welcomed inside the place and were brought before the lady of the house. She was his friend, and apparently, nothing disastrous happened to her as what he formerly thought.

He breathed down seeing her well.

"I haven't seen you for ages. What's with the visit?" the lady warmly said, smiling, and asked them to sit.

His mother returned her an equally warm discourse. She told her that they visited because she wanted to know how she was, and how things were going on with her domain.

The conversation between them occurred smoothly, until came the chance when his demanding mother told her something that changed their facial expressions for a moment.

"I have thought of it ever since, sweetheart. I am aware you love kids, how about having one yourself? You are not yet betrothed to anyone, let my son court you."

Hereupon, the time was as if stopped. Her son throbbed and felt a little awkward on what his mother said. He couldn't seem to breathe down feeling very embarrassed. He glanced at the lady expectant that something will happen to break the silence away.

With the desire to break the hiatus, his friend laughed modestly.

Soon after, the atmosphere went back to normal and he sighed.

She slightly smiled at them and said that the idea about courtship is favorable—but she doubted—she knew that this man already loved and married someone else.

His mother assured her that it would be fine, and that everything would go serenely and free from impediments.

Then things were resolved.

Her name is Leila, a lady with eye lens of red, long and straight, black hair, and with long and slender stature. She's sweet and caring, and just like what her friend's mother said, she's fond of kids—she likes it when kids are around her.

Besides those things, she is also tough, with fierce but calm looking eyes.

She had mastered sorcery, though she have only been using it casually, and have known how to expertly wield the sword. In fact, she got a nice collection of swords somewhere on her immense mansion.

Later on, the two of them went outside, walked through the path made of bulk, flattened stones lined and arranged on the ground where grasses were removed, and settled on somewhere under the shade of the trees beside the garden.

She was glancing at the nature and was letting the cool breeze sway her long, black hair. "Your mother hasn't changed. She's still the same forceful and determined person who bosses you around," she told him warmly and she continued looking at him, "I saw your face when she told us you need to court me, were you surprised ... felt awkward?" She flashed a smile.

"You're right, I was." He smiled a bit as he admitted. "It might be that Mother wants another grandchild, or maybe ... she wanted you ... be her family. You see, I'm her only child and maybe she has been yearning for children ever since. But ... in whatever way, if we will be having a child, I want his name to be Andrew, okay?"

She smiled at him, "You're silly. We're not even betrothed."

If everything would go normally, they would have a child—a boy, and his name would be Andrew as he suggested. He would have the same eyes as his mother, with the same skills—and he would be Mistress Leila's successor of her domain.

Incidentally, things went on normally.

His first wife, Yurielle, seemed to be depressed on what was happening but instead, she has resolved herself on having a child from her.

She wanted to be a mother herself, and most importantly, she wanted to prove herself that she was not just some useless wife who couldn't give any happiness for her husband.

Fortunately, her efforts and determination had paid off.

Finally, she gave birth to a child, with the same hair color and face as hers. They called him Gielien.

Young Gielien grew up inside the mansion. He was used to have other's eyes on him, for they knew this child could be the next lord of their land. He might have been the third son, nonetheless he is the son of the first wife, so most people thought it was a given that he will be the one to inherit the land.

They were so cautious when he was around, and tend to give him the respect a lord deserves. He hardly had a chance to play with other children inside the mansion, for even those children were lectured who this child was.

From that, his personality became melancholic, and he appeared to be unemotional for some reasons.

He would love to have some friends, to play with them, and study with them. But he was always isolated and given a special treatment reserved for the next heir. He did not wish for it. He only wanted to be loved and feel that way. But instead he was feeling the opposite.

On the other hand, Dominique, the first son of their landlord, grew up to be a proud, confident and a wholly arrogant kid.

He was, like him, separated from the rest of the kids, but for a different reason. He was the figure of fear for other children during the times he was inside the mansion—for some times he was with his mother on her travels.

He had known Gielien, and he noticed his sullen and pensive appearance. He saw him sitting under the tree outside the mansion and he walked towards him with a grim face.

Ola! As you can see, landlords here are always free to have a new wife. :'3

But to tell the truth, my characters Gielien, Dominique and Andrew are the same guys from my other work, The Worlds that Collide (but Giel is the only one appearing there). They are actually (or let's say, originally) COUSINS, not siblings. And I wanted to retain their real mothers in this story. Remember I said VBD is like a fanfiction? You may read it IF you can understand the Tagalog/Filipino language.
