It's 5 o'clock. I haven't been trying to keep a record on the time, but I find myself looking at the clock so much, it's like I'm addicted.
"Well, you better get ready to go." Taylor says.
"I don't feel well, so I'm not going tonight." I whisper. Her eyes, once brown, turn into a fiery glare.
"What?" I ask.
"You give up so much, it's not even funny!" She screams at me.
"Umm, excuse me? I give up?"
"Ya, you do."
"Shut the hell up!" I scream. "I don't give up! Where the hell did your stupid, little, attitude come from?"
"I've been helping you all day and all you talk about is,oh Steven, I hope your okay! oh I don't feel well, Taylor do this!"
"Then leave! I hope your husband gets in a coma then. then you'll feel the pain."
"F*** off, bi***." She turns toward the door and opens it.
"I hope your baby dies and your fiancé!" With that, she slams the door.
Why? Why was she like this to me? My best friend hates me and for what? It's not like it would affect her if I didn't go. Would it?
I lay back down and block everything out. But, as soon as I about lose consciousness the phone rings. My eyes snap open in fear. Could it be the jealous bitch Becca told me about or could this be the hospital calling to tell me Steven did-didn't...
I throw myself off the couch and limp my way toward the hallway to receive the phone. As I limp over to it, I realize how much I miss my iPhone, which has a caller ID. My hand hesitates over the phone and then I pick it up.
"Hello?" I ask, my voice cracking.
"Good evening, is this Maddy Ellison?" A male voice asks.
"Yes, this is her. Do you need something?" I am suspicious, I have to admit.
"Umm, yes. I am Detective F. Faye of the Chicago police department. I am calling you to ask you some questions about you fiancé Steven Markowitz."
"Alright." I say unsure of myself.
"Where were you the night of the accident?"
"I was with him when it happened." I say.
"Okay, what was your reason to tie him down with his seat belt, to where he couldn't escape?"
I shift my weight in discomfort.
"Excuse me?" I ask, out of breath.
"Why did you tie him down with his seatbelt to where he couldn't escape?"
What?! Is he saying what I think he's...
"I didn't sir." I whisper.
"Last question, why did you try to squeeze of his air supply, by choking him?" I drop the phone. What the hell.
"I didn't!" I scream at the wall. Hot tears begin running down my cheeks.
"Ms. Ellison, don't lie to me." I hear a little voice say.
"I'm not!" I grab the phone and hang it on the receiver and drop onto my knees. Why would I try to kill the love of my life? Where was he getting this information?
Then I think about what Taylor lied about. Maybe I should give up. It wouldn't be so bad, except the baby would die.
I won't let that happen.
