"So why do you need to escape the king's guards?" I asked. Yuval stood behind me, looking at the ground. After all, it was my idea. The demon sighed. "I was born over 2,000,000 years ago. I'm one of the oldest demons here, resident of the Underworld. I proved to be loyal, smart, cunning, and good-looking. They sent me to a school where demons become a demon. There is usually about a 10 percent chance of getting into demon school - I was the fifth student to ever attend. After I graduated from the school I qualified for the tournament of the Demon King. Demon King is the highest possible demon rank and is part of the royal family. To prepare for the tournament I became a Blacksmith, a guard, and an axe-man all at the same time. From about midnight to nine in the morning, I forged swords, arrowheads, and axes. From nine to three, I patrolled Tartar and not just the waterpark, the whole country of Tartar," I had a look of surprise on my face. "There are many countries in the Underworld and the Underworld is a continent. Anyway, from three to ten, I practiced with all the other axe-men, practicing for battle. From ten to eleven, I ate a small meal, and from eleven to midnight, I slept. I was a very busy person. Not only that, I was probably the hardest-working man. Other than being king, queen, prince, princess, or earl I was probably the highest-ranking man because I had so many jobs. I survived even with one hours worth of eating and one hours worth of sleeping per day. Then, a few months ago, it happened. I was to temporarily give up my job as a guard, axe-man, and Blacksmith for the tournament. The king was a very nice king but nonetheless, I still wanted to be king. I needed to use a tungsten sword for the tournament. To be in the tournament you needed to have an ability. My ability is common in Tartar but is rare in most of the other countries. My ability was a weak form of hypnotism. The only way to block it would be to wear an emerald crystal battle helmet. I arrived at home, ready to sleep. Then I heard knocking on the door. There was a royal guard there. He told me our king's missing sceptre. He didn't suspect me, but most of the guards did as well as the queen. They suspected me because the sceptre had gone missing exactly when I had been announced for the tournament in the castle. Then thought I committed treason. The king had specifically told the guards not to fire me, but they still fired me from being a guard and an axe-man and they destroyed my forging premises. They stole all the arrowheads I'd forged as well as every sword. But I managed to sneak one out of the building. The sword was called night's shadow specially made for an earl. Now I'm on the run. The problem is, when you leave the country, they ask for your name, cause of death, age, etc. The guards informed the border-guards that I'm a wanted criminal. So I can't escape. So that's why I need your help," he finished. "Won't the king back you up?" Yuval asked. "The king is too busy assigning missions to retrieve his sceptre," he replied. "Oh yeah," I said. "What's your name?" "I'm Henry McWilliams," he said. "So Henry, who's Yitzchak?" Instantly, Henry's face turned from annoyed and angry, to sad. "Yitzchak is the earl of tartar. In each county, the order of command is king or queen, prince, princesses, and earl. I was right after earl. So anyway, back about 1,000,000 years ago, the old king kidnapped a neighbouring country's earl. There was a huge war, big and bloody, and probably the longest and most terrible war the Underworld has ever seen. The neighbouring country won, but it was a narrow victory. They didn't want land, they just wanted their earl back. So they marched into the castle to retrieve the earl. Remember this, though, we weren't bad, our king was. The king was killed in the war, so we needed a new king. Now to be king you need to be powerful and it is a difficult job so the country created a tournament to decide who was next. The two finalists were called Jacob and Yitzchak. They both were worthy of being king and after ten straight victories. They needed to fight in a ginormous arena. the winner would be king and the loser would be earl, as the earl had also been killed in the war. Jacob won the tournament so he became king and Yitzchak became earl and they still are - except Yitzchak has disappeared. Yitzchak and Jacob hate each other. Jacob suspects that Yitzchak might've stolen the sceptre as revenge for Jacob beating him at the tournament. Of course, Yitzchak is my best friend and Yitzchak would never steal for no reason even if his life depended on it; Yitzchak is probably the kindest, most loyal, and smartest person I've ever met." "Ok," I said. "And I've been wondering about another thing. We're dead, right? So how do you die again?" "Think of it like this," replied Henry. "When we were alive, we didn't know what would happen when we died, did we? So this is kind of like a second world you live in. The only way you can die is if you get killed by another person, or poisoned. There's no dying of old age here, in fact, you don't age here. You will always stay young forever - at least in looks. Your brains will develop more, but I don't know since I've never been young in the Underworld. Anyway, there's also no dying of an illness for there are no illnesses in the Underworld, either. You also can't die of something going wrong inside your body for unless another human or demon, or poison tampers with it, it will stay healthy and serve you well. We don't know what happens when we die again, most people are extremely careful not to die because this place is like a second chance to live a better life, but in a different setting." "Ok," I replied. "This makes so much more sense now. So where do we go now?" I gestured towards Yuval. "Hang on," Henry said. "You said you'd help me escape." I cursed inwardly. How're we supposed to help an innocent demon escape the king's guards? "I'm sorry Mr. McWilliams sir, but we only arrived here a few hours ago; how're we supposed to help you escape?" Yuval asked. Henry looked angry for a second then a smile appeared on his face. "Right you are, young fellow. But what you probably don't know is that you're magic. Hold each other's hands and with your other one grasp mine. I will take us to a teleporter so we can go to a safe compartment where the guards can't find me," Yuval remained silent for a moment and then said, "And how do we know you're not going to take that sword and run it through us?" Henry glared at Yuval and then unsheathed the sword and gave it to him. "Happy now? You're armed, I'm not." "Fine," Yuval said to avoid further arguments. I grabbed Yuval's hand and clasped Henry's. Yuval took Henry's hand - and then there was a fizzing noise and a faint pop and we teleported.

Merlin sat down in a tent where a man sat, twiddling with something that apparently, he alone could see. He looked up as Merlin sat down. "News?" he said. "The best," Merlin replied. "I killed one of the potential threats and the other threat was killed by his own father." The other man laughed quietly and said, "Which means we'll make our next move. Send someone to kidnap the earl, - what's his name? Yitzchak? - that axe-man, and a guard and then we'll wait for their move." The man smiled. This was like chess, he thought. One move at a time until there is a clear victor. You can't overdo it, though. What the man didn't know was that there were a few elements in play, however. To use the man's terms, they'd set up a few potential traps and were several moves in front. What the man did know that if they had come up with a strategy, they'd fall into one of his traps. Unfortunately for him, they'd come down the wrong side of the board.

The queen of Rus, Wakel, was absent-mindedly weaving when one of her maids came into her quarters. She curtsied and said, "Your Royal Highness, madam, you told me to keep an eye on their every move that they make." She walked over to the queen and cupped a hand over her mouth and whispered, "They're one element ahead of them," The queen smiled and said, "Well done, Penelope, you've done a lot to tell me this. Go have a shower and get some sleep." "Thank you, Your Majesty," she said, curtsied again, and exited. The queen waited a second, then got up to send the letter she'd been waiting to send for a while.
