A/N: Hey, thanks for all of the support so far on this book. There have been plumbers in my house for the past few days so it's been pretty hectic. It should be back to normal soon though and I should be more active on here. Lots of love! x

"Come on Halstead, you're the worst at this." Ruzek complains.

"Sorry, I didn't think it was a competition to walk on crutches."

"I could just carry you up the stairs" Atwater suggests.

"I'd rather take 5 hours to get up the stairs. Plus you'd only end up dropping me." It's my first day back at intelligence. It's only been 3 days since the accident. Because I'm only allowed to do desk duty I could return practically straight away. But the only main obstacle is the mass amount of stairs I have to get up to get into the intelligence department. I've been hobbling up the stairs for 10 minutes now and I'm no where near half way up them. Turns out crutches are way harder to walk on than I imagined. They give in, waiting for me to finish the stairs. Antonio had already come in earlier this morning, so Atwater and Ruzek had picked me up from the apartment.

"Finally!" they cheer sarcastically when I reach the top. I roll my eyes at the two of them acting like children.

"You need some training on the stairs?" Antonio asks.

"I'm fine with the stairs, it's not like I was in a rush anyway." I reply, being engulfed in a hug from Upton and Burgess.

"Good to see you kid" Voight says, appearing from his office. "The stairs not treating you well?"

"Can everyone stop asking about the stairs? I'm fine by the way. Glad to see we've all got our priorities straight" I say sarcastically, sitting in my chair. We get to work with a case about a robbery homicide. Everyone's in a talkative mood, bouncing ideas off of each other.

Time skip to 4 months later.

Not much has changed in these past few months, I've obviously spent a lot of time with everyone. I moved out of Antonio's and I'm currently living by myself. As much as I loved staying with Antonio, I just wanted some independence. My two week trial ended a while ago, and I decided I wanted to take Voight up on his offer. I joined the police academy and have done most of my training. Voight said that I could still stay working in intelligence with the others whilst I was in the academy. His plan is that I go to the academy and when I'm finished with that I get a job in intelligence. I've currently just finished some training, the people at the academy are generally nice but there's one of the recruits who thinks I won't pass because I'm a female.

"Halstead" I turn around, being greeted by Diaz. She's the only other female officer on the course. I smile at her as she approaches me. "You did good in there"

"Thanks Diaz, you're not too bad yourself" I joke. Knowing she's ten times better at this stuff than I am.

"Fabian and I are going for food with some of the others. You fancy joining? That cute guy that keeps eye you up is going" Diaz says, her face has a suggestive expression.

"That cute guy that keeps eyeing me up is in fact a sexist pig. And I'd love to come but I have to get back to 21st district. And I have a brother who has to know every single thing I do." I roll my eyes dramatically.

"Can you not do something for yourself Halstead?" I turn around being greeted by a smirking Meyer. I cannot stand him, which is another reason I want to graduate from the academy. Just to prove him wrong.

"Meyer, as much as I appreciate your concern about me. Will you kindly fuck off?" Diaz smirks at my response to the sexist pig.

"I need to get going, I'll see you tomorrow Halstead." she says, I say goodbye to her. Leaving me faced with a slightly shocked Meyer. I walk passed him, knowing I have places to be. I make my way to my car, I've only just recently passed my driving test. Meaning I can transport myself wherever I want to go.
