"Where the hell are we even going?"
Enzo huffed, "To your village. Whats so confusing?"
"Don't condescend me," I sneered, grabbing him by the edge of his coat. I did my best to keep close as we edged towards the outskirts of the estate. The further we went, the colder the air became; as well as the forest which gradually grew more and more lifeless.
"How does the invisibility spell even work?" I asked, almost tripping on a twig. Cursing at my feet, I waited for an answer.
"Cloaking. Not invisibility." he muttered, seemingly distracted.
"Whats the difference...?" I pried impatiently, wanting a more elaborate answer.
"We don't actually become invisible...obviously. Our existence is just cloaked from other people. Almost like a glamour." he continued, "This type of spell is too small to be noticed by the wards. It won't alert anyone of us leaving."
I hummed in response, still attached to his coat as he navigated me through forest which all looked the same. This was a place that I wasn't familiar with, and I knew how dangerous forests could be when you didn't know what you were doing.
Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks, making me slightly collide with him.
"What now?" I snapped.
The only response I got was a curse. Getting even more impatient, I went to see what had gotten him in such a frenzy.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. An animal, so bloodied and torn apart that I couldn't even recognise what it was, was lying before us on the forest floor.
The concerning part wasn't the animal itself, but rather the marks that were left on it. Teeth patterns that were unrecognisable dotted any remains of intact skin, the wounds still fresh. I felt a cold sweat drip down my forehead as I couldn't tear my eyes away.
I had hunted a lot of animals in my lifetime, but I had never witnessed anything like this.
"What animal is that?" I asked quietly, staring at Enzo who was now crouched down beside it.
"A wolf."
Frowning in surprise, I let out an uneasy chuckle, "What?"
He gently pushed me away as he got up, "We need to get out of here."
Feeling panic mixed with unease settle in my stomach, I grabbed his arm to stop him from walking. "Can you explain what the fuck is going on?"
