CH.3 Hidden Strength

8:00 pm. Jem's house....

They were still living together with a handful of people as their neighbors in the Biga village at the foot of the mountain. It was at least 30 km away from the nearest city, Pinamalayan city. Their stone house was just simple and not that big as a so called mansion. It only have a second floor and a small front yard of at least 20 square meters just like any other houses in their village. Though they could afford to have a much grander house in the city, they prefer to stay in a normal one in this village and live a normal life to the fullest.

Every time Jem went to the city in order to study, he needed the tamed beast of his mother in order for him to travel on time. It was much better if he only have a beast of his own as his mount but unfortunately for him, he couldn't tame a single beast at all.

Their village was just small with at least a hundred population. Though there was no walls on it, there was a spell that keep the beasts away and prevent the sudden appearance of portals inside the village.

Ever since the beasts appeared on Earth, almost all the structures on Earth was damaged from all the war that just transpired. The countless and prosperous huge buildings that were built by mankind in many cities were trampled down by the beasts making it as good as waste.

Because of the continues appearance of portals and beasts coming out from it, Earth was inhabited by countless beasts and humanities were forced to leave their everything and build their own fortress to defend against the beasts.

Beast's waves constantly occur everywhere and their village was without exception but of course, it never became a threat to them. His mother was a former S-rank after all. Though she was retired, it doesn't mean that she won't use her power anymore to at least defend herself and her love ones, it only means that she was free from any shackles and responsibilities.

Usually, only those hunters who had been crippled for life were allowed to retired but for some reason, the Government and Hunter Association allowed her to quit as a hunter.

Into the woods near them up to the mountain top, the howl of the beasts was could always be heard particularly at night, if not for some kind of spell that help the village to stay hidden and repel the beasts, they might got attacked and was inevitable to have some casualties.

Inside the room where Jem was, he could hear the cry of the beasts outside. Not only that, Jem could clearly hear as well everything around him at the quiet night. The snore of his neighbors, the croak of the frogs, the bark of the dogs, the sounds of someone making love, he was able to hear them all.

"Just what the hell is happening to me!" He could only feel bewildered hearing those things unreasonably.

If his guess was correct, he could hear at least 100 meters away from him as clear as crystal no matter how loud or low the sound was. And if he focused his hearing to a certain direction, he could hear at least 200 meters away from him, however, the hearing range from the opposite side would also decrease up to zero distance, making it for him to not hear anything to the opposite direction of where he was focusing his hearing.

It was just like the radius of his hearing of where he was in the center became a diameter of where he was on the side. No matter in the radius of 100 meters that could become a diameter of 200 meter, he could hear it all, even if it was just a footsteps of an ant, as long that there was a sound.

Still, though he could hear everything within his range, he didn't get distracted even though he could hear all of them at the same time.

He could also ignore the sounds that he didn't want to hear, making it for him to feel relief when he ignored the sounds of his neighbor that were making love.
