As they walked into a cafe near her shop, Joy told Yerim to find a free table while she ordered coffee for both of them. Yerim spotted a free table near the window and quickly walked to it. She sat down and waited for her friend to know what she had to tell her.
She turned her face to the window and stared at the people walking down the street through it. She liked trying to guess what could be their job, or what their mood was like. As she was busy doing so, she was interrupted by her friend placing the plate on the white wooden table and sat down in front of her.
"I got your favorite. Vanilla latte." She told Yerim with a smile.
"Thank you!" Yerim eagerly took the cup in her cold hands and took a sip.
"It's hot!" She winced a bit while feeling her tongue burning.
"Why are you in such a rush! You should wait a bit or at least blow on it. I swear you're like a child Kim Yerim!" She scolded her.
"I'm sorry mom." Yerim apologized in her giggles to which Joy rolled her eyes.
"So, what did you have to tell me?" She asked curiously after putting the cup down on the table.
"Right." Joy smiled and clasped her hands together.
"Firstly, you have to promise me you won't freak out and just be happy for me."
Yerim worried a bit over what her friend said. Was it something she was supposed to worry about?
"I promise." She said anyway.
"So." Joy bit her lip in happiness.
"What? Come on just spill it already!" Yerim nudged her friend's hand.
"I'm getting married!" Joy was announced happily.
Married? Yerim felt like a rock stumbled on her head.
"What are you talking about? You aren't even dating!" Yerim reasoned thinking it was a joke.
"My dad wants me to get married." Joy said softly.
"And you will? Just because he wants you to? Wait, is that really an arranged marriage?" Yerim asked in disbelief.
"Isn't it something that happens only in dramas?""I usually don't give in, but when I hear who wants me to get married to, I couldn't refuse."
"Who is it?"
"The guy I always told you about. You know that hottie who often comes to my place when we were kids. And you have no idea of how hot he got while growing up." Yerim swore she could see hearts in her friend's eyes.
"So you're getting married to your first love."
"Isn't it amazing? Who thought this would ever happen?" Joy clapped her hands in happiness.
"Right ... Who could have guessed." Yerim sighed.
"Aren't you happy for me?" Joy asked feeling worried about Yerim's strange reaction. "I thought you would feel more excited for me."
"I'm happy for you! No, really it's great! You're getting married to the guy you always liked, it's amazing despite being quite unbelievable!" Yerim reassured her.
"It's just very sudden. I didn't expect it.""I'm sorry for surprising you like this." Joy looked down in uneasiness.
"I'm happy for you. I really am." Yerim grabbed her hands and squeezed them in hers.
