Light shadows were in the corner of my eyes. Someone started giggling in my ear, and told me to wake up. It was an angelic voice. One that would make anyone want to follow it. My eyes opened slightly to see short curls resting on a shoulder. I gasp lightly while sitting up straight. "Brianna?" No response came. A comforting feeling rests in me. "Is it really you? Are you actually here with me?"
She halfway turned towards me. No scars were on her face, and it was as smooth as before. Nothing was wrong anymore. All peace was restored because she was here. My sister was alive and well. Obviously some stuff needed to be worked out, but it didn't matter because she was right here. The past months were a distant memory after seeing her alive. I reached out to touch her, but soft dust took her place. My scream echoed loudly as I lost balance and fell through the ground. Brianna's voice echoed through the tunnel as I floated through it. Finally, water hit my back and another body was nearby. "Brianna?" I reached for her, but was interuppted by a loud beeping.
Machines were attached to me as I opened my eyes. A smiling face was at my side with a boquet of flowers. "Declan." My voice was a whisper, and I held his hand. An action that we used to always do as children for comfort.
Another face appeared, and tears were in my mother's eyes. Dad rested one hand on her shoulder, and held my other hand with his free one. Fear was there in both of their eyes, but they tried to hide it. How selfless. A mercy that I didn't deserve for scaring them no doubt. Trevor walked through the door with snacks in his hand, and smiled when he seen me. "She's alive!" He said with a dramatic tone. I laughed. Our parents scolded him for making such a remark. After the dream that just happened, a joke was needed.
Someone else walked inside of the door with a sincere look. "Sorry, but Ms. Williams will have to go with me as soon as she's released." I inhaled sharply while squeezing my father's hand. Nothing bad even happened to Chase, so all of this stress was for nothing.
As the doctors gave me more medicine, my mind was on something else. Brianna visited my dreams, and it was a trouble expression of her. Conflict danced in her eyes as she tried to figure out what to say to me. I walked out of the hospitial with a cop behind me, and everyone staring at me in the hospitial.
Several cop cars were at the station as we pulled into the parking lot. It was somewhat small, but big enough for our city. People were walking in and out of the station with different expressions. Cops crawled around every inch of this place, and I shivered while thinking of Ethan. Hopefully he didn't get himself into deeper trouble with his temper. That would do more harm than good. "I want to see her!" His voice was heard from the end of the hallway, and I wanted to run towards it. "Where is she? Look, man, she has nothing to do with anything." Every strand of hair made a perfect messy. They all went in different directions, and it made him even more beautiful.
I sighed in relief at the sight of him while biting my lip. Being together for these past months have been too cruical to my happiness, and butterflies entered my stomach anytime i looked at him. We tried to walk towars the other, but were held back. Handcuffs on both of our wrists, and officers holding us back tightly. The officer holding Ethan was holding him tigther becuase of the resistance coming from Ethan. Nobody else seemed to be around us. Despite both of us being on opposite side of the hallway, we were close together. Our eyes held weight in them. "What's going on, Ethan?" We were told to be kept at a distance to avoid any silent conversations.
He huffed as the cop wouldn't let him move another inch. "Chase framed us. Claimed that we harmed him and the house." Ethan's eyes drifted to the unbothered cop behind him with furous eyes. "When we didn't do any of that, and these assholes aren't letting us leave!" I could hear a scoff come from him in frustration.
The cop set his cup down while grabbing Ethan tighter. "Stop with all of the nonsense." A daring looking was in his eyes, and a silent part of him hoped that trouble would go off right here. Something to entertain his boring ass job. One second of silence went by. Ethan gave me a signal to try to run, but I shook my head. As soon as his foot lifted from the ground, he was pinned against the wall.
Ethan tried to wiggle out of the cop's grasp, but got smashed into the wall even more. "Hey, don't hurt him!" My voice shouted. For once, there was determination in it. Volume rung in my words like a bell for church. I silently applauded myself for having that much strength.
From the corner of my eyes, a shadow appeared with a grin. Chase met my stare, and the look in his eyes sent chills down my spine. There was no remorse for lying. "We didn't do anything to you. If anything, you're the one who deserves to be behind bars." Crying right now wasn't an option, but it was hard to refuse. Saying the words put a thousand more weights on my shoulders. Ethan tried to break loose at the sound of his father being here. Chase said nothing. Only an intimidating stare meeting his eyes.
As time passed, we waited. All three of us made separate reports. There was no way they could investigate this any more. Chase was the only guilty person here. He had no evidence of us doing anything while we had plenty. All of the bruises over Ethan's body along with our identical statements.
Trevor was the first person I seen as the cops let me out of my handcuffs. Whatever remark he was going to make got lost in our tight hug. Seeing my brother has never been so important to me than right now.
Another shadow appeared from behind him. Declan had a small card, and gave me a smile. I hugged him tightly too, grateful for the newfound freedom. We both chuckled at how corny of a card it was, but another set of footsteps were heard behind us. Chase was held in handcuffs while being carried away from us. A death stare resting in his eyes.
As soon as he was gone, my eyes rested on the one person I wanted to see most. Pain was in Ethan's eyes. Even more than any of the other times I've seen. He noticed Declan's hand on my shoulder, and a hint of jealousy flickered into his eyes. I didn't care though. Without remembering where we were, I ran to him while throwing my arms around him. A loud sigh escaped his mouth. Happiness soaked into me with ease. Everything was okay.
There was no amount of joy on his face though. Only a deep sadness that was unbearable to look at. I frowned while noticing his wrists were still in handcuffs. "Why are you still in handcuffs?" The same asshole cop came out of the room while walking up to us. "Ethan? What's happening?"
"Ethan Henderson, you're arrested for being involved in a robbery. You have the right to remain silent." It was the same boring speech. No enthusiasm or sympathy was in his voice. It was only flat.
I couldn't take my eyes off of Ethan, and realized that this was something different. This crime had nothing to do with me. "My parents are going to help you. We won't let you stay in here." The words spilled out of my mouth as the cop finished his last donut with utter boredom.
"Jenna, stop. Don't save me." A blow to the chest. "We're over. You need to stay away from me."
My eyes began to water, and my words blurred together. "What? No, Ethan. Don't break up with me because of this. I'm going to help you." I placed a hand to his cheek with a gentle smile.
Ethan face hardened at my action. Instead of pain, deep rooted anger took it's place. "You don't get it. There's nothing you can do except go back to your perfect little life." Jealously echoed through his hollow tone. There was no difference from his voice, and an empty tunnel. "Don't try to figure this one out. I don't want to see you, ever again."
Pieces of my heart shattered. A painful action as my tears began to flow. There was no way of protecting myself from them now. Sharp parts of my heart chipped at me, and I found it hard to breath. Every pair of eyes were on me now as Ethan walked away from me. Every ounce of happiness and joy leaving with him. Two pairs of hands pulled me back to prevent me from chasing him.
There was no final moment, no final look. He was here one second, and than he disappeared.
