Matt's POV

I got home from Sophie's house to find my mom passed out with a beer bottle in her hand. She was laying on the couch with her face in her own puke and her arm hanging off the side.

"Mom, wake up!" I yelled as I threw a pillow at her head.

"What the hell Matthew?!" she yelled. "Why did you have to throw that at me?"

"Because you need to get up. Go clean up and I will make us dinner," I stated walking into the kitchen.

She groaned as she got up off of the couch and walked into her room. She smelt disgusting and looked even worse.

I started making tacos as she walked out of her room, "is the food ready yet? I'm starving," she said.

"Not quite but it will be soon," I responded.

"Ok," she sighed as she reached into the fridge to get a beer.

When dinner was ready I got myself a plate and sat down on a chair in the living room. My mom sat on the other chair because the couch was currently covered in vomit.

"Hey Matt," she started. "You need to clean that up after dinner."

"Hell no!" I exclaimed.

"I am your mother! You will do as I say," she replied angrily.

"I will do as you say once you take responsibility for your actions!" I yelled. "I am tired of taking care of you, it's supposed to be the other way around!"

"That's bullshit," she shook her head. "You are just making excuses!"

"Am not!" I spoke as I got up and walked to my room, slamming my door behind me. She was always so hard on me for no reason. I just wanted her to go back to the way she used to be before she started drinking so much.

I spent the rest of the night locked in my room but I could hear her opening the fridge every 20 minutes to get another beer. I didn't even know if she would wake up in the morning after drinking that much but miraculously the next day she was still alive and she was still a bitch.

"How did you sleep last night?" she asked.

"Really shitty." I responded.

"Listen, I don't remember much from last night but I know that you were very disrespectful and I will not tolerate that in my house. Do you understand me?" she stated harshly.

"Yes ma'm." I replied quietly.

"Good, now get the hell out of here," she demanded. "Mark is coming over and you know how much he hates it when you're around!"

"Fine!" I yelled as I picked up my skateboard and ran out the front door.

My weekend was pretty shitty after leaving Sophie's house on Saturday but I was just happy that it was now Monday so I could go to school and not have to deal with my mom all day. My first and second periods were pretty boring because math and English were my least favorite subjects, but I was excited to go to 3rd period because it was bio with Sophie.

I walked into the science classroom to see Sophie sitting next to Noah, one of our classmates. That was weird considering I had never seen them talk before.

"Hey Soph, what's up?" I stated as I approached the table.

"Not much. How was your weekend?" she asked as I placed down my backpack and sat next to her.

"It was alright," I lied. I didn't really want to get into it with Noah sitting there.

"Oh, by the way, I hope you don't mind but I told Noah he could sit here," she said. "He needs some help studying for the test."

"That's fine," I replied but I didn't really mean it. I wanted to talk to Sophie about what happened with my mom this weekend but I knew I couldn't with Noah sitting right next to her.

Bio class passed by really slowly because I had to listen to Sophie flirt with Noah the whole time which became increasingly annoying over the hour long class period. He continuously asked her for help on the review packet even though he had to have known the answers. Even I knew the answers and I'm a dumbass. Sophie kept helping him with all of the questions and she even giggled a couple of times which was so obviously flirtatious behavior.

It was annoying, and frankly kind of rude to me who had to sit there and put up with their shit. After 3rd period was lunch and Sophie and I always ate together so I was hoping that she wouldn't blow me off today for that loser.

After class I started walking to the cafeteria and Sophie was behind me talking to Noah.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow in class," she said. Thank god. I was going to have a melt down if she chose to eat with that idiot over me.

"Hey Matt, sorry about that. He really had a lot of questions," she said as she walked next to me.

"Are you kidding me?!" I exclaimed. "He was totally flirting with you. Even I understood the packet."

"I don't know Matt. Maybe he is just stupid?" she laughed.

"Nope, I don't think so. He just needed an excuse to talk to you," I stated.

"Ok, but why do you even care?" she questioned.

"I'm just protective of you, that's all," I replied but that wasn't really the truth. I was feeling jealous of Noah. But why? I didn't like Sophie, she was my best friend.

"Whatever you say Champion," she said as she sat down at a table and opened her lunch box.

As I sat down I looked at Sophie and realized how beautiful she was. Maybe I had caught feelings for her without even realizing. She had been my best friend for so long that I thought it was impossible for us to be more than that but maybe we really could be something more one day.

a/n:
Hey y'all, I'm really loving the two new Brockhampton songs. I think "things can't stay the same" is my favorite but Matt killed it in both of them!

As always, thank you for the reads and votes and comments (:
