“Silly little girl. You actually thought you would succeed at getting the triton back?” he laughed, “What offer did Neptune give you? What did he offer you in return for his triton?”

“He said he would turn me human if I got it back.” I said in a sweet, innocent voice.

At this he laughed even harder, “Tell you what, if you give me back the triton, I’ll turn you human right here, right now. You can leave here untouched if you would just hand me the-”

“NO!” I screamed. It’s not right. I kicked him and swam away as fast as I could. I didn’t think I was going to make it out of there but I really, really wanted to. I was almost there, halfway through the ship. One last window. I was out. I made it out of there alive. I was shocked that no one was chasing me. I looked down. I spoke too soon.

11:48 a.m.

I found myself back in the room where they had their meeting, but this time it was only me, Broker, Dwindler, and the four sharks holding me hostage. They kept asking me to hand over the triton, but I refused. Each time I refused, the guard would punch me in the gut.

“I’m going to ask you one last time. If you value your life, hand it over now.” Dwindler demanded.

I thought of my parents, how I would never see them again. Julia would never see me again. And just when Derek and I were brought back together, we would be torn apart for eternity. But I also thought of Spencer, Larissa, and Neptune. It would be selfish of me to make them lose everything. Uh oh. Goodbye, Derek

“No.” I stated.

“Kill her” Dwindler ordered.

Just as the guard was opening his mouth,

“STOP!” a familiar voice said.

The guards were puzzled and so was I. There was a very small outline of a fish coming from the back of the room. It was Spencer. The sharks looked and laughed, and then continued beating me up. Spencer swam closer.

“Kaela, go!” He yelled. With that, Spencer broke the cage I was in, and set me free. I stopped to watch what he was about to do. He was risking his life to save mine,

“No, Spencer stop!” I yelled.

“I have to Kaela, it’s the right thing to do. Your friend Derek caught me and was looking at a picture of you. It was after we talked, so I recognized you. Derek was crying. He looked at me and then back at your picture and set me free, so that I could protect you. This is what I have to do. He loves you.”

Spencer’s fins were so tired from dodging sharks left and right that he gave up.

“Kaela, go save Mermaidia!” Spencer yelled.

I was swimming as fast as I could, but my mind kept wandering to Spencer. I know that he got eaten, but I can’t believe he saved me. I love you too Derek.
