Beach

Corbyn and I agreed to be at the beach around 10 AM; it was around 8:30 now. I wore my bathing suit underneath a pair of jean shorts and an oversized T-shirt. I applied sun-screen so I wouldn't have to after. I then grabbed my already-packed backpack, my phone, and walked downstairs towards the living room. After a few minutes, I heard a car pull up outside and got a text from Sheila saying that she's outside. I walked outside and locked the door. I zipped my keys in my backpack and spotted Sheila's glossy black jeep. I got in the jeep and noticed Tom was already there too. "HEYYYYY ARIIIII, let's go pick up Max now." they both seemed so excited and that also made me even more excited.

We pulled up to Max's house and once he finally came out he shook his head. "There's no way I'm getting in that car with Sheila driving-" He paused for a moment and once he spotted Tom he continued, "OR Tom, so Aria take the wheel." We all laughed and Sheila handed me the keys with a wink. I gave her a knowing nod and we switched places. Now Sheila was in the passenger seat, while Tom and Max were sitting at the back. I started the car and adjusted my seat. I made sure everyone was ready before driving. "Seatbelts?"(stay safe kids) "CHECK." After the answer in unison, Sheila and I made eye contact. I nodded and stepped on the gas pedal. Max and Tom screamed like their life depended on it and once I was satisfied with the reaction I slowed down.

"I trusted you Aria, and you decided to drive like Sheila." We all laughed except for Max and rolled down the windows. We blasted the music and jammed the whole way to the beach. Once we got there I texted Corbyn while the others began to get out of the car.

'I seeeee youuu'

My heart started beating fast and I looked around.

I spotted Corbyn waving along with another boy. Me and my friends made our way toward them. "Heyy guys!" I grinned and waved at the guys. We put our backpacks down and I moved aside to introduce my friends. "I'm Aria, this is Sheila, Tom, and Max." Corbyn and the boy smiled. "I'm Corbyn, and this is Daniel." We all smiled and Corbyn added, "by the way a few more friends are coming, they're just always late." Daniel laughed and we joined in. A few moments later 3 more guys walk toward us. 2 of them look really familiar. Wait- "Aria?" I made a confused expression. "Jonah?" Before any of us could continue we hear. "You also know waffle girl?" I turned to the curly-headed boy. "Jack?" Everyone made a confused expression and we decided to reintroduce ourselves. "and that's Zach." I turn to Zach and ask "Did you ever get your Chipotle?" The boys laugh and Zach shakes his head no.

After talking a bit more and getting to know each other, Tom stands up and begins to take off his shirt. He notices Sheila watching and throws her a wink. Sheila chokes on her water and pushes him to the side. The rest of us follow Tom's actions and in a blink of an eye we all found ourselves running towards the water. We reached the water and we all dove in. Zach splashes Max, and the war began. We were all a splashing mess.

After a while of splashing, we all calmed down. At this point, everyone did their own thing. Jack, Tom, Daniel, and Sheila played volleyball on the sand, while Zach and Max did some type of aggressive swimming contest. Jonah acted as the referee and blew on a whistle while yelling. I didn't want to go too deep into the water so I stood where the water got a little over my waist. I spot Corbyn walk towards me with a smile. "Do you know how to swim?" He didn't ask in an insulting way, but in a curious way. "Yeah, but I don't like to go to where it's super deep." He nodded understandingly. "Want to swim up until there?" He pointed to a few feet away. "I looked at him nervously and bit my lip. "I'll walk there first so that you can see how deep it is okay?" I nodded at his offer and watched him walk to the spot he pointed at before. I see the water is a little over his waist so I decided it wasn't that bad. The waves also weren't too ruff so I swam over too him.

Once I got to him we both giggled and he clapped. "You swim pretty good." I giggled and showed him how I can handstand underwater. I felt him softly tickle the bottoms of my feet and I quickly stood up laughing. We both were a laughing mess and we swam around for a bit. I saw him stop swimming and stand normally. The water was up to his neck. I gulped and quickly turned and threw my body back facing the sky, spreading out my arms, so that I'd be floating. I learned that if you are ever tired of swimming or fell like you could drown, just float, and stay calm first, then you can swim back to safety once you've regained some energy. Corbyn looked at me with a confused expression. I answered before he could even ask. "The water is up to your neck and since I'm shorter, that means it's above my head. Corbyn's expression softened up a bit and he held out his arms. "Try to touch the floor and if you can't then I'll grab you." I began to pray in my head. "Are you sure?" He nodded. "Do you promise?" I turned my head while still floating to see his expression. "I promise Aria." I stopped floating, held my breath, and tried to touch the floor.

As predicted, the water was above my head. I panicked and grabbed Corbyn's arm. He quickly placed his arms on my waist and pulled me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. He helped wipe my eyes and asked in a calm, yet worried voice; "You okay?" I nodded and gave him a small 'mhm'. I rested my head on his shoulder and he swayed us in the water a bit. I started to giggle and he joined in. "What?" I shook my head. "Nothing." He giggled harder and said "Tell mee" while extending the 'e' sound. "Thank you for pulling me up." He rubbed my back a little bit and said; "I keep my promises." I can hear him smile through his words.
