Jacob sighed as Sandra dramatically sashayed across the room and left.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Wullback. We were actually best friends since high school, so I was just a little angry at her for stirring up all this mess" I confided to him.
"Don't worry, I know all about what Sandra can do. Besides, you don't have to call me by my last name" Jacob rolled his eyes "all that formal stuff is just really boring."
We just stood there awkwardly for a few seconds.
"Erm, shall we?" I asked, gesturing to the pile of papers.
Jacob then started explaining everything about the workplace; the locations of every file, office, storage room, and I quickly caught up. However, throughout the whole day I was still thinking about my problem of where to live.
Jacob must've sensed my distraction.
"Hey Alice, what's wrong?" He asked.
I sighed. "It's nothing really..."
Jacob raised an eyebrow.
"Well, I guess you don't have to tell me if you really don't want to,"
"Fine, I'll tell you," I huffed. Damn it, reverse psychology. "I don't have anywhere to live now."
Jacob's eyes widened.
"Oh. But I thought you have a friend to live with or something?"
"Yeah, I did, but I can't stay there anymore because she has to go home and I can't stay at her house for some reason. I guess I'll have to sleep in my car again until I earn enough money to find a place to live," I said glumly.
Jacob gasped.
"You can't do that! You're pregnant! You have to find a proper place to stay, at least until you've given birth," Jacob exclaimed. "You know what, you can stay with me at my place if you want to, I have plenty of room."
I gaped at him, speechless. Not many people would invite a random person, a pregnant random person, into his house.
"W-what? Are you sure?" I stuttered.
"Yeah of course! I'm totally serious! I don't think it's healthy for the baby if you don't have a place to live."
"why do you care about me or my child? It's not yours. Also, aren't you a little, uhm, you know, old?"
Jacob laughed.
"Wow, you're worried about my age? I'm like, 27. Not that much older than you," Jacob smiled at me.
"You're dodging the question. Why do you care about me and my child?" I persisted.
"Well, it's not right to let a pregnant lady live in her car. And plus, your super nice and c- I mean, friendly."
I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Fine, I'll live with you. Just no funny business, 'kay?"
"Okay."
