Chapter 3: Interview

   The following morning was hell.

I woke up at four in the morning just to calm Luke down when he started crying. Then received an angry call from a neighbor twenty minutes later when he started crying again. Soon enough, Nana was already over to pick the little boy up for the day. Realizing that I was losing time fast, Nana gave me couraging words once again.

"Oh god, what am I gonna wear? Where is Luke's bag? Where is my bag?" I began to hyperventilate.

"Mara..Mara! MARA!" I snapped out of my panicking state to quickly glance at my grandmother, but began once again to look for all of Luke's things.

"Mara, my goodness. Will you relax?! I already have Luke's things. Just breathe, you'll be fine. Instead of worrying about this little angel, you should start getting ready. Your interview is in two hours." I finally took a breath and nodded.

"You're right.. Jesus Christ i'm so tired." I sighed out, rubbing my hands on my face.

"I'll prepare some coffee really quick. But right now go take a shower, put your professional clothes on and get your butt in the car. You gotta score this job!"

"I know, I know." I said while walking into my bedroom. I pulled my only 'professional' two-piece woman's suit out of my closet, and set it on my bed sighing. "I can do this." I hopped in the shower did my normal routine and put the suit on. I stepped out of my room to see Luke giggling in my grandmother's arms. I smiled and quickly kissed Luke's forehead and Nana's cheek while grabbing my purse.

"Thanks so much again Nana!" I called out, walking to my small car.

"No problem sweetheart. Remember to pick him up later." She responded, motioning towards Luke. I nodded and waved, my mind nervous for the interview.

I waited in the waiting room for about an hour, nervously waiting.

"Ms. Spalenski?" I jolted upwards and stood up, clearing my throat.

"Yes! Uhm..right here.." I blushed slightly at my outburst, but walked up to the older lady who smiled kindly.

"Mr. Borittoni will see you now." She spoke. I nodded and quickly walked through the door. As soon as I stepped through the door, I was met with a giant mess. The room might seem luxurious, but there were papers and books all over the place. I had to walk around a certain pile just to reach Mr. Borittoni's desk. Once I did though, I saw a man who's head was buried in folders. It seemed like he didn't even notice I was there. I cleared my throat.

"Mr. Borittoni?" When he did look up, I was floored. He must have been standing at 6 ft and I could identify his muscular build through the ripples of his suit. He had a hard yet soft face and sported some attractive stubble. His mesmerizing brown eyes met with mine and I quickly covered up my creeping blush with conversation. "Uhm..I'm Mara Spalenski. I'm here for your secretary position." Light and recognition filled his eyes and he cleared his throat, clearing his desk.

"Yes, of course. Have a seat." I obeyed, sitting in the seat that didn't have papers. "Sorry for the mess, my former secretary just recently retired and I have just been trying to recover." I accidentally let out a small giggle but immediately tried to cover it up with a cough, my face burning up. He raised his eyebrow.

"Are you alright?" He asked, a feint Italian accent rooted in his voice. I quickly nodded, muttering my apologies. He gave the tiniest smile. "It's normal if you're nervous...Alright. On with the questions." He regained his serious face.

"You are aware that this job requires you to have a high school degree, which I see on your resume...that you indeed have." He said, looking into a folder which I assume was my resume. I suddenly became very self-conscience. I nodded to answer his question and rubbed my hands together, anticipating his next question.

"Okay...do you have any kids Ms. Spalenski?" I gulped, nodding again. He raised his eyebrow.

"I have a son, Luke. I brought him in just a week ago." I stated, my voice growing stronger.

"So he is not your birth son?" His curiosity showing. I shook my head, grasping my hands in a tight clasp.

"He was left on my doorstep, so I decided to take him in, following all the legal procedures." He nodded, deciding not to touch on the subject any longer. Question after question soon followed after, the whole interview lasting about an hour.

"Before we finish, I have one more question..you are aware of my reputation, am I correct?" I nodded, looking at him straight in the eye.

"I am aware that you are also the 'mafia boss' as you put it."

"So you know about the dangers that might come across my jobs, and how you might have to help clean up if you do take the job? This particular job, as you may know, will require you to not only help organize my life at work, but also at home. You can see around you, that I am a complete mess and will lose a lot of things, no matter if i'm a C.E.O, or any other bullcrap, pardon my french." This time I allowed a laugh to escape my lips, as did he. I nodded, in response to his claim.

"I do understand however, that you do have a young child at home and I just want to let you know that you can bring him along. I will set up an area for him in this office, since we will be sharing one." My eyes widened, realizing what he was actually saying.

"Wait, so I got the job?" I asked the handsome man, who was clearing away. He gave a warm smile and nodded, reaching his hand out.

"Welcome to the BoriTech family Mara."
