"How come you never tell us anything? I feel like we're not part of the losers' club anymore", Mike sighed while moving his food around.
"I'm so sorry! I just..didn't have time. I promise I will tell you guys everything from now on", Stan said as he was looking at Bill, Mike and Ben.
They were the only ones from the losers' club that came to school that day. Eddie was sick and Bev decided to stay at his place for some time.
"You d-didn't tell th-them.. did you?", Bill inaudibly whispered so only Stan would understand.
Stan mouthed a "no" while looking down at his disgusting plate with food. That day the cafeteria had cold dry pizza and some expired orange juice. He grabbed the apple he got from home and took a big chunk out of it.
Some time has passed. Nobody dared to say anything. Stan considered it really awkward.
"I gotta go. I probably won't be in class. Don't worry, I'm going to check up on Eddie."
They were all giving him dirty looks, except for Bill. He was sketching some smiles here and there. He nodded before Stan headed off.
Stan checked to see if there were any teachers around. He was ready to escape for the 1436728th time. He was already an expert. Once he ran out, he started walking so he wouldn't attract people's attention. The sky was cloudy as usual and it was kinda cold. He hurried until he got to Eddie's house. He stopped right in front of the door. He hasn't ever been there. He didn't know his mom or anything. He gently knocked on the door. The panic was raising inside of him as seconds passed and there were no signs of someone opening the door. He knocked once again, this time harder.
"Come in", Sonia's voice was heard from inside.
Stan quietly opened the door, looking inside. Then he saw her. The chunky mother. He inhaled deeply and walked in.
"Hi, I'm Stan. Friend of Eddie's", he nervously said.
"Oh, you're here too? Is anyone else coming?" she quickly responded.
"No.. But I can leave if y-"
"Eddie's upstairs. Poor baby. I gave him a thousand meds this morning, probably helped him for some time. The other girl is really nice to him, I like that. Are they together? She would be perfect for Eddie. He is so helpless sometimes, you know? He really needs someone by his side. I'm glad you're all helping him. He's been really quiet before starting high school but now he seems fine. Thank you, Steve."
She was talking really fast and was changing the topic a lot. Stan was watching her carefully, not knowing what to say.
"Stan."
He started feeling embarrassed so he just went upstairs. There were two doors, but he decided to just go ahead and try them instead of asking his mother. Luckily, Eddie's room was the one on the left. Stan slowly opened the door, catching Bev sitting on the bed, reading a book. She moved her eyes towards Stan, pointing to sit next to her. Eddie was asleep. He was on the other side of Bev, quietly talking in his sleep. Bev was smiling the whole time. Stan gently sat on the bed.
"How is he?", he whispered.
"He's okay. Could've been better, but he's alright. We're talking 'bout a strong boy here", she quickly smiled.
Stan was watching him sleep. It was the cutest thing ever, he thought. Eddie's eyelashes were so long. His freckles were reminding him of a flower field. His hair was really messy, but that 'messy' was perfect. His face was pale and his lips were chapped.
