Krishnaa's POV
He smiled, his lips curled, I could only see his lips, then, his eyes, those shiny hazel eyes, he blinked and Everything was black, someone pulled my hairs, dragged me, the sound of stabbing, the sound of men laughing...
I opened my eyes, sweat dripping off my forehead, I sharply inhaled, since I've completed twenty-three years of my life, I keep having dreams or I'd say dreams that turn into nightmares afterwards. I looked at the watch, 6:28 am, it said.
I got up and after freshening up, I walked into the kitchen as always, I lived with my aunt and uncle, three cousins and grandmother, my dadi ma.
Eldest of my cousins was Sameera, who hates me for no reason or maybe there is some reason which is unknown to me.
Shivli, who loves me and was younger than Sameera but almost my age. The youngest was Jai, he neither hates me nor loves me. He pretended that I don't exist. My aunt and uncle loved me... only because I was their free cook.
I am Annapurna, says my dadi ma.
(Annapurna is derived from Sanskrit meaning the giver of food and nourishment.)
I completed my graduation in literature just a few months ago. It was very difficult, firstly, no one was ready to let me go to college.
"She is our cook, why does she want to study? There is nothing more in her life than to cook for us," Was the excuse of Sameera.
"Why we wanna spent money on her? Who spends money on a free maid?" Was my aunt's excuse.
Secondly, to manage studies and literally, all the household work is a very big deal.
But Shivli and dadi ma convinced everyone and I got to go to college but no use, what can I do more than cooking? Or maybe I can but no one wants their free maid to have a life of her own. They gave me home. They gave me love(Shivli and dadi ma mostly). I should be loyal to them and be their cook, besides being the cook of my house, I was also a baker, our bakery was famous in whole Dehradun.
After I cooked the breakfast, I got ready in my usual clothes, the clothes of Sameera, I never got to buy clothes for me or even spend a rupee on myself, just sometimes Shivli used to get me new clothes as gifts.
Besides Shivli and Dadi ma, I had a best friend too, Priya RaiChand, she was an introvert but she got along with me well, we had kinda same choices, so we are best friends forever since the age of fourteen.
"Oh ho," said my aunt as I walked in the dining room to serve them food.
"Sorry Chachi, I woke up quite late today so.." I apologised before she yells at me.
"Late? Why? Were you dreaming?" She spoke cruelly, like always.
"Cha--" Sameera's voice forestalled me, "Shut it! You're the worst, this food? You cook so bad! I'd rather go and have my breakfast a restaurant with my friends than to eat what you've made! The worst cook ever! I don't know why this old lady calls you so-called Annapurna'! Idiot!" She stormed out.
"See! What you did! You've got my Sammy upset, you're such a bad omen!" Aunt spoke with gritted teeth.
"Mom!" Shivli growled in frustration, not once in our house, we can have a normal happy conversation or spend time together, Sameera always acts abruptly to everything I do, "She is the best cook, she cooks better than you!" Shivli yelled.
"Shivli!" My uncle yelled at Shivli, "is this a way to talk to your mother?"
"Papa, don't! You all just make Krishnaa feel so insulted, she is not our maid, she is your niece, not your slave!"
