Annae looked out over the English countryside and swore under her breath. She couldn't believe that her Grandmia-that is her name, Mia. She always said she was a Grande person, so Annae and Jen started calling her Grandmia and then everyone started using it-had sold her off. It was a barbaric thing to do, but her mother didn't seem to find anything wrong with it.
See her Grandmia was born into power, money and high society. Being Russian and Rich seemed to suit her, her accent always sent chills down Annae's spin and everyone in her family seemed to fear the great and powerful Grandmia. She could get you fired and wipe you off the face of the world, with just one word. It was creep, how she could always detect if you lied to her or if you were hiding something.
Annae was born into the world of the rich and pig-headed, she always hated the attention of all the guys, they only wanted one thing. And it wasn't her body. Her mum was Russian and her dad was German, mixed blood. But that didn't mean that Grandmia wouldn't acknowledge her, just because she was born out of wedlock and her dad was "the enemy". Oh no, it only made her Grandmia love her even more, she wanted her little Russian/German granddaughter to be a part of the Russian side of the family and forget about the dad that left her. What was it WWII?
Anyway, he Grandmia still thought it was like the 1800's or something, she wanted Annae to marry some rich boy from her best friends family. Jack Nervam. It made her want to bring up her breakfast and run away to out of Mongolia.
Her and Jack always seemed to have a love/hate relationship and he always seemed to win their games as kids. Apart from that incident when they were 5, Annae was waiting patiently outside his bedroom and when he stepped out, she poured pond water on his head. The frog went down his shirt and now he was scared of frogs and toads. LOL!
That was the guy her Grandmia wanted her to marry, at least she wasn't as unlucky as Jen. She was marrying some guy called Johan. Poor Jen.
"Annae, your Grandmia is here!" Her mother shouted up, her mum-Andrean-didn't have an arranged marriage and that's why Grandmia wanted Annae to have one.
All of a sudden, her cousin Jen kicked the door open and hid inside her wardrobe. Annae raised her eyebrows at the closed door and rolled her eyes-she couldn't raise one eyebrow on its own, her friend Kenna (Czarina) was best at it-and huffed her way out the door.
"Jen, out of my wardrobe!" She yelled over her shoulder.
Jen hissed from behind her and tackled her to the floor, Jen's knees on Annae's back and Annae's arm behind her. "I could have stayed hidden, I could have stayed unnoticed." Jen ground out.
"I'm going to give you 5 seconds to get off my back," Annae hissed. "or I will make sure you never speak again."
Jen leapt off her back and ran down the stairs. Annae shook her head and rubbed her back, goddamn cheerleaders. She thought, her friend Jen was a cheerleader, a very silent and strong cheerleader. Annae rushed down the stairs and kissed her Grandmia's cheek, before getting on her knees and bowing her head slightly. "Privyet, Grandmia." Me and Jen said simultaneously.
"Privyet Annae, Lasoka." She replied.
Annae giggled when she said Lasoka that was the name that she called Jen.
When Annae and Jen were born their parents gave them names that Grandmia didn't want them to be called. Annae was born Hannah and Jen was born Jennifer. Grandmia wanted them to be called Annae (Hannah or Anna in Latin and Tribal Russian) and Lasoka (Treasure in Tribal Russian).
Now Tribal Russian to all you Russian and other Country people is an ancient language when Russia was first turned into an independent Country.
Grandmia looked at her granddaughters and smiled, if only my Ciro were here to see them all grown to fine young ladies. She thought to herself, looking up at the ceiling. Her daughter Andrean patted her hand and gave her a knowing look. Grandmia looked back down at her granddaughters and opened her mouth to speak.
"Jack and Johan are going to meet us in Moscow, we will go shopping and then take the private jet to Novosibirsk, where we will go to Doskav Mansion." She gave Annae a sharp look when she groaned and coughed. "Annae, Jack is good boy, he will be good husband and lover for you."
Annae gasped and covered her ears. "Grandmia, too much info."
Grandmia grasped Annae's chin and looked her in the eyes. "I can hear the German in your accent, you sound like your father." She released Annae's chin and looked at Jen. "Lasoka, you want to see Johan, don't you?" She asked.
Jen looked over at Annae and then seeing her hurt and saddened expression, spun back around and looked at her Grandmia. "Da."
Grandmia stood up and smiled down at Jen. "Da, good. I will take my leave now, I will see you girls at the ball on Saturday and then we will leave on Sunday."
Andrean stood up and walked into the kitchen, putting the kettle on and checking the food in the oven. Jen looked over at Annae and gasped when she saw she was gone, Jen stood up and searched the house, coming up empty. She didn't mean to hurt Annae, she just didn't want to upset Grandmia and get herself shipped off to Ruskov boarding school.
When Jen was 5 her parents died, her mother from breast cancer and her father committed suicide not long after. She wouldn't talk to anyone, except for Annae and Grandmia. Her Grandmia took her in and raised her like a daughter, Jen lived most of her life in the Novosibirsk, near Serbia.
If only Annae would understand that she said yes because of a sense of duty and she never meant to hurt her feelings.
