Mergle's POV -

"We need to find Violet," I say.

"I saw the direction she ran from the cornucopia," Sniffer says. "She ran West."

"What are we waiting for then?" Hoodie asks.

We head towards where Sniffer said Violet ran.

About an hour or two pass until we find some footprints on the ground.

I pull out a knife and am on guard.

"They're fresh," Hoodie says.

"That could be good or bad..." Sniffer says.

There's a loud crash through the leaves and before I know it, and arrow is pointed at my head.

"Get out of here or I'll shoot..." Violet says.

"We aren't here to fight," Sniffer says. "We want to take down the careers."

Violet slowly lowers her bow. "How can I trust you?"

"We all know we don't stand a chance alone," I say.

"I have some info on the careers," Violet says. "They split up. I've been spying on them. Brooke took district 2 and 4."

"That's who killed Harry," Sniffer says.

"And we killed Krista," I say.

"The others are guarding the cornucopia, they have full control over all the food and weapons," Violet says.

"We should go raid it," Hoodie says.

"And maybe kill a few people there while we're at it," I smile.

"Shark!" Violet yells. "You can come out."
Shark appears from the bushes.

"We have another person to help us," Violet smiles. "Shark is is very skilled with a sword and throwing knives. He played weak in training."

"I want to help you guys get rid of the careers," Shark says.

"Shark, before we raid get Tris to hunt you down and kill her," Violet says.

"On it," Shark smiles running from the group.

"He's strong enough to take her," Violet says.

"Follow me," Violet leads us towards the cornucopia. She stops us on the edge of the clearing, so we aren't seen.

Abdul, Salad, Kam, and Trisha are in the island in the center.

"Tris isn't there," Violet smiles. "All according to plan."

"Now we need the rest of them off the island," I say.

Violet draws and arrow and points it not at the careers, but towards the acidic water on the opposite side of the island. She lets the arrow fly, creating a splash that distracts the careers. They think it came from the other direction. The four of them take off from the island and past the beach into the candy forest.

A canon booms.

"There's Tris' canon," Violet smiles. "Now we make our move."

Violet's POV:

"Stay back for now," Violet says. "I'll signal you to come when I'm sure it's okay.

We take off, leaping from the brush line and running up one of the strips of land towards the cornucopia.

My bow is tightly squeezed in my hand in case the careers return to their pile of treasure.

I reach the heart of the cornucopia and grab an extra sheath of arrows. There's food and canteens of water as well. This is heaven.

I find a few knives and other small weapons that I can place on my belt or in my pockets.

I figure that I should signal to the rest now. I exit the mouth of the cornucopia and turn to see somebody standing there. They hurl a knife at my face and it slashes my cheek. The shock of it throws me to the ground. I stumble and grab my bow, sending an arrow at the attacker. It misses. I shoot another and it barely nicks them on the arm, but it doesn't slow their approach.

The person tackles me and tussles with me on the ground. They roll me towards the water, and it splashes onto my hand, burning it for a split second. I punch the attacker in the throat and break free slightly, but they stab me in my leg and club their knee into my face. They then place their knee on my chest, immobilizing me, following that with a knife to my throat. I'm under their full control.

"Where's Shark?" Tris smiles.

"What?" I can barely squeeze out.

"You sent him to kill me?" Tris chuckles. "Yeah well, I killed him."

Tris holds up another blade. Of course, she has one twin blade to my throat and the other she is positioning to end my life with.

"You're gonna see him soon," she smiles.

Tris plunges the blade down but something bashes her off of me, sending her rolling into the acidic water.

She's in for a split second before she jumps back out, throwing her blade. It lands in Mergle's stomach and she takes off from the cornucopia with her life.

I run over and grab Mergle as he falls into the ground. The blade hasn't sunk too deep. I pull the blade out and wrap him in bandages. The blade is dulled, but why?

I turn around and look at the water. I stick the blade into the acid and it quickly dulls to almost nothing.

"The acid works very fast," I say. "If Tris was in for just a few more seconds she'd be dead."

"Raid the cornucopia," Mergle says. "It won't be long until they're back to finish the job."

Hoodie and Sniffer exit the cornucopia with weapons and supplies. "Let's go," Sniffer says.

We take off down a strip of land and just as we re-enter the candy forest, the careers appear on the opposite side of the cornucopia.

"Just in time..." Hoodie says.

We make our way to a hiding spot and sit until midnight. The anthem begins and Shark's face appears in the sky. A tear comes to my eye. I'll miss him as an ally.
