OXXIV. HALF-WAR, HALF-PEACE
twenty fourIVY'S FIRST THOUGHT WHEN SHE OPENED HER EYES WAS THAT SHE FELT LIKE SHE WAS GOING TO HACK UP HER INTESTINES, AND PERHAPS A LUNG OR TWO. Debating on it hadn't seemed like an option either as she jolted up, blinded by the gold and green, glimpsing that they were in a forest as a dizzy spell hit her.
The first breath that graced her lungs caused Ivy's body to twitch, seconds later she's on her hands and knees, wretching madly.
She shuddered as she vomited, coughing painfully before sitting back on her haunches when she's done. The world spun as she fell on her back, overwhelmed by the sense of nausea and as if she's underwater, because everything around her was just garbled sounds.
The next time she wakes up, there's a damp rag on her forehead. Ivy let out a train of german curses, blinking groggily. "Hermione, she's awake!" Someone called... Harry?
"What in the fuck happened?" Ivy rasps, grunting as she moved one hand to her chest. "Bloody hell—"
"Take it easy," Harry tells her, helping her sit up. "You were out of it when we got here."
"And where exactly is here?" Ivy muttered, looking over at the other cot to see Ron, "You look terrible, asparagus."
Ron snorts, "Not as bad as throwing up my innards, do I?"
"Touché."
Hermione immediately hugged Ivy, whose eyes widened. Almost immediately, Ivy's arms encircled Hermione's waist. "Wait—" Hermione sniffles. "Oh my god... Hermione Jean, are you crying?"
"You idiot," Hermione scolded as she pulled away. "I thought you were gone, you looked so out of it—so dead! You scared us, Ivy!"
"Well, I'm normally frightening, so—"
"You're so insufferable!" Hermione scolded as Ivy wore a teasing grin. "Don't ever scare me like that again."
Ivy winked, "Yes, ma'am."
"So, have you got it?" Harry asked her and Hermione, partly to remind her that he and Ron were there.
"Got—got what?" Hermione stuttered, with a little start.
"What did we just go through all that for? The locket! Where's the locket?"
"You got it?" Ron shouted, raising himself a little higher on his pillows. "No one tells me anything! Blimey, you could have mentioned it!"
Ivy rolled her eyes as Hermione dug through her black shoulder bag, "Sure, Ronald, we'll gossip with you about tacky jewelry the next time we're so busy running for our lives from Death Eaters."
"Here," And Hermione pulled the locket out of Ivy's bag and handed it to Ron. It was as large as a chicken's egg. An ornate letter S, inlaid with many small green stones, glinted dully in the diffused light shining through the tent's canvas roof.
"There isn't any chance someone's destroyed it since Kreacher had it?" Ron asked hopefully. "I mean, are we sure it's still a Horcrux?"
