"Why him?" his usually loud voice was quiet.

We were standing in front of a convenience store, he was leaning against a brick wall while I stood in front of him, it was deserted, like everything else here, the only colour my eyes could see was the glowing red sign on a door that said 'closed'.

"I don't know," I answered honestly. I could never lie to him, I didn't wonder why.

"What do you see in him?" he asked next, eyes focused on the empty streets.

"I don't know," I answered again.

"What do you want from him?"

"I don't know. Nothing."

Silence. He was staring at the sky now, I noticed the moon and stars made his eye shine.

I blinked once, twice.
The second time my eyes opened, they saw a beach. I quickly scanned the area, I saw towels, beach umbrellas and beach balls scattered around the sand but no sign of any living beings other than us.

I didn't recognise the place, I began to suspect if the city we were in actually was Seoul or not, since everywhere we've been so far has been unfamiliar territory to me.

"Then he's useless," he spoke suddenly, he still wasn't looking at me, staring into the dark abyss called the night sky instead. How broody.

"I guess you're right," I muttered, I didn't have anything to say. Who were we even talking about?

"Don't waste your time on people like that, if you see no potential then there's no point in keeping him in your life. Especially if he only brings you headaches and negativity. Get rid of him."

"Okay."

He turned his head to look at me for the first time that night, his eyebrows were furrowed and a mean glare was etched on his face. He must be annoyed.
But I agreed with him?

"Sometimes I forget you're not conscious," he muttered, turning away again, he started walking in a random direction, "how useless."

I followed him with a frown. What was I supposed to do?

"Why am I useless?"

He didn't turn his head or stop to answer me: "You don't contribute anything. You don't do anything. You don't even have a personality. You're just... here. You just listen and you're not even a good listener."

I felt my eyebrows furrow at his odd statement.
"Why don't you get rid of me then?"

He stopped this time, almost causing me to collide with his back. I stared up at the back of his head in curiosity, interested in what would come out of his mouth this time.

"Because you're the only one here," he started, then sighed deeply, "and I don't know what I would do if I was all alone."

I kept quiet, unsure of how to answer him.
He turned around abruptly, startling me.

"That would mean... that I was wrong. You're not useless," he forced a sarcastic smile at me, "congratulations, you're keeping me sane."
