She Doesn't Know Us (ASH)

My heart pounded against my chest. She couldn't do this to me. The rumors had been circling all of our relationships since that night at the Billboard Music Awards. The night that everything changed and everyone suddenly knew our names.

We had kept us a secret. I never wanted the pressures of this part of my life to screw with what we had. I thought I could love her forever and I thought she felt the same way. Whenever some new girl 'apparently' popped into my life we would laugh about it. She would tease me, telling me that for all I know, she had three boyfriends on the side when I was gone.

But this. The truth...was too much.

"I'm so sorry Ashton," she was saying to me now. Tears streamed down her perfect face. Her blonde hair a complete frizzy mess. Calum had dipped out hours ago. I couldn't blame him, as much as I wanted to. He didn't know about my relationship with her, none of them did.

"You cheated on me with my best friend, Rachel!" I am yelling. Angry, heartbroken words that I will probably feel bad about in the morning.

There are so many hidden memories I share with her but now they are tarnished. Forever turned into a red haze of hate for what she has done to me.

I was supposed to be the bad guy. Don't the stories always say that the guy is the jerk. I never, NEVER, expected her to turn things around like this.

But, reality is a bitch.

"Just get out," I say now. Closing my eyes so that I don't see her reaction.

"Ashton, please," she sobs. My eyes are closed but they pop open when her arms suddenly are wrapped around my waist. No. I can't do this. I throw her arms off of me and take four steps back to the door. "We can work through this." She sobs again, reaching for me. But I open the door wide.

"I don't want to work through it Rachel."

(About 4 Months Later)

"So, it's been said that you four have a ban on girlfriends," the interviewer asks. It's still absolutely insane that we are being interviewed for New York's top radio station. Luke answers for us, saying that we are never in one place to long and by some miracle I don't think about Rachel in an 'I miss you' way. More of a, we happened way.

"Have you ever fought over a girl?" This is where things quickly get awkward. Thankfully, Michael is able to break the tension with his laughter and soon we are all joining in.

"It sounds really bad but there are girls in ever city and we definitely all argue over dibs," Calum chuckles.

"Of course, we have no time to actually see any girls, but we definitely look," Michael finishes.

Without too many more personal questions, the interviewer begins to focus instead on our new and heightened career.

After the interview, the four of us are lead to the lobby of the building. We catch a glimpse outside and see the mass of girls just outside of the building. Our security detail jumps into action. They call the driver and make plans to pick us up behind the building.

"It's never boring at least," I laugh, pulling out my phone to Instagram a video of us in the building. Ten minutes later we are headed outside.

I readjust the bandana around my forehead and as I look up at the waiting car, a girl walks past is muttering excuse me. She looks about 20 and is wearing a pair of aviators. Her hair is cut to her chin and the best part, is that she doesn't seem to know who the hell we are. When I realize I'm staring it's nearly too late.

"Hey!" I run after her just before she turns the corner. She stops and turns around, pushing her sunglasses up so that they push her hair back. I'm hot with her eyes, bright and alive.

Crap. It's hit me.

"Hey," I say, slightly out of breath. "I'm sorry for calling you out in the middle of TriBeCa."

"He's not from here and he knows New York City, I'm impressed," she laughs and pulls her sunglasses off her head to run her hands through her hair. "(Y/N)." She holds her hand out and I shake it.

"I'm Ashton," I say. Behind me, Luke calls my name. Why on earth does the youngest one have to be responsible? "Look,"

"You have to go," she says. She pulls her phone out of her purse and I stare at it excitedly as she hands it to me. I'm like a child being given candy. "Give me your number and I'll give you a call sometime."

"Yes, yes definitely," I say, grabbing the phone and plugging my number in. God this is real. "Um, shit. I hate saying this but my band is kind of only in New York until tomorrow night."

"Hm, I'm busy today so that's a shame," she frowns and I feel all of my hopes dying slowly. "Maybe my schedule will clear up. Where are you playing?"

"Um, Met Stadium," I say, scratching the back of my head and looking down at the ground to hide my smile. God it's amazing she doesn't know us.

"Wow," she says. "I...damn. You must be huge."

"Ashton, NOW!" Someone yells from the car. I turn and wave them off but start walking back towards the car.

"I have to go, call me. I'll get you tickets if you want them," I tell her. I give her a wave, hop into the car, and watch her disappear around the building.

The boys start teasing me instantly but I ignore them. Unless she doesn't call, the entire thing is awesome.

A few blocks up, my phone rings and an unknown number pops up on the screen. HELL FUCKING YES!

"Hello?" I answer the phone and slap Michael across the face to shut him up.

"So, it's (Y/N), guess what? My schedule just cleared up," she says with a jokingly smug tone. God this girl is amazing. "Where should I meet you?"
