Never Expected This

First year had been slow after the excitement of joining the Drama Club, and most of the rest of it was making yourself known to the rest of the school. That was the surprisingly easy part, without even realizing it you had become the talk of the school. A student with no eyes to speak of, and a human at that. It was the talk of the school since the first day. The major part of the plan was done, now maintaining a good public image was the next.

This flowed into the second year, where you were named the head costumer and designer. Your costumes were shown to the entire school and you were given the credit. Your public image was up and you were going to make sure you did everything you could to both improve how people see you and do your best for the animals here.

While working on costumes and other things over the course of the first year you became very acquainted with the stage crew, asking them often to help you sew together costumes. Mostly Dom, Fudge, and Kibi. You cooperated with Dom pretty often, considering he was the director of the design team. However, even though he was a director he still put in just as much work as everyone else, even offering to help with costumes as well. You admired that about him, being a great team player. Fudge and Kibi were the biggest help of all, with both of them being costumers with you. All you had to do was ask and they were immediately on it. But even through that you still didn't meet everyone from the art department. Working on costumes and school work made it difficult to be able to meet everyone.

Your main issue at this point was Louis. So far, you have managed to avoid him and his gaze successfully. However as you started to gain more popularity around the school, it was getting more and more difficult to not see him. There were many times he used the ruse of costume questions to have you talk to him in his office, but being able to successfully dodge those was even getting more difficult. Eventually, you had gotten cornered by him and was practically dragged to the office. "Though it seems to be quite the game you are trying to pull, I hardly find it funny. My real question is why you are trying to avoid me. (Y/N) if I have questions for you you need to be ready to answer them." Louis was directing this on you, obviously you were to blame for it. This didn't make you feel any better about his gaze on you. "I don't believe that you want to ask about costumes, you have better things to worry about. I know you have been watching my progress." You say, crossing your arms. You will not be scared of the deer, you have a job to do.

"I guess you are as clever as they say, that makes this conversation a whole lot easier. You seem to be gaining a lot of ground here, which is a difficult situation to be in. It feels as though you are aiming towards something. Like the role of Beastar." Crap, he knew the entire time. Of course he knew, he was set up to be the next Beastar, keeping track of his competition was something that needed to happen. "Look, fine, you caught me. But before you say anything else, I'm not doing it for anything important. If it comes to the final stretch you can have it. I am not fighting a supposed friend. Besides, I only did this so I could prove to everyone that I am still a substantial member of society. That I am not handicapped by my sight." You say, smiling. You meant what you said. When it comes to fighting people you were always looking for a peaceful solution.

That was your power, your strength. The ability to cool down angry students and resolve issues without violence, anger, or witty words is a rather important one that few have. It may be them pitying you or feeling sad that they are getting into petty fights when others are far worse off then them. But the method didn't matter. This was your power to harness, the one thing you could control.

"Well then, that just makes it boring then. I have to admit I am intrigued by the notion of having a bit of competition. Especially by someone as capable as yourself. But we'll put this to the side for now, I have a leaders meeting and you have some costumes to work on."

"Oh...Right...I almost forgot about that."

Louis was referring to the untimely death of Tem. It was a shock to everyone that the alpaca had met his end at the hands of a student, at least that was the rumor. You hadn't known him extremely well, but it still upset you. If that could happen to a kind person such as Tem, then no one was safe.

As you left Louis's office and got back to what you were doing, more members were coming into the practice room. Everyone had already started getting into their cliques and groups, of course theater kids have their groups. You sat in the corner, just listening to everyone, you didn't want to interject your opinion into these conversations about Tem. From what it seemed however most of the herbivores were upset by the carnivores, you can't blame them, but you don't agree. It is critical to the success of the drama club that we don't get divided.

The talking ended when Sanu entered the room, apparently the carnivores and the herbivores had separated into their respective two groups, you stayed to the side for now, you're an omnivore anyways so you didn't associate directly with either group. As you continued to listen you felt the room change, people were getting angry. It seems that Ellen and Bill were arguing with each other. As you hold your ears to their fighting your irritation starts to rise.

You stand up, stomping your foot on the ground. This caught the attention of everyone in the room. "I feel as though that is enough bickering with each other. Now I understand that everything is stressful, this is a situation that we haven't dealt with. Now, i'm not saying that Tem's death was good, But we can't let this set us so far back. We can be sad and mourn the loss of our friend, but we have a duty to uphold. The drama club is the backbone of the school, showing everyone that carnivores and herbivores can get along. If we start falling apart now then we will disappoint the entire school. We need to be a united front against this." You say, hoping your words at least stalled the fighting for now. "So let's get back to work, we have a show coming up."

You left after that, letting everyone consider for themselves what they want to do. You have a job you have to do, and a costume to find a replacement for.

Dear Mom,

Something bad happened, a student ended up getting killed. Someone from the drama club too. I'm not scared though, we have to stay together during this time. So don't worry about me, we have a lot more protection now. The drama club needs to perform and show everyone that we are still united and strong. I know this sounds like a one of those ridiculous inspiration mottoes, but it is important

I hope you understand.

Love you,

(Y/N)
