×Chaeyoung's p.o.v×
The recess bells ring and I go to get my usual lunch at the canteen. The soles of my brand new pink Converse go squeak squeak squeak (yes, those are three continuous squeaks) all the way to my chem class and back, annoying me myself and (I think) the people around me.
I strode off to the canteen and sit on our usual spot, which is right beside the apple tree. There aren't any gross spots here, at Les Infires Academy. So, the spot beside this apple tree is considered mediocre, to say the least. Regardless, we like it. There's wind, a tad bit of sun, and we even gave names to the apples (we forgot which was which, of course, but Ryujin continued to pretend like she knew which was which, and so now it's not that weird anymore).
I sat down with my chicken noodle soup (with a soda on the side), and got down to my work. Work, here refers to my chemistry notes. Yes, first month of school and chemistry is already a big problem for me. I seem to be lost on the last three units, but I don't know what I don't understand. You feel me?
Not long after going through my third note, Ryujin arrives, taking the seat beside me. We proceed with some talk (we don't need small talk, we're best friends after all) and the other chiquitas came together eventually.
Ryujin, Lisa, Yeji, and me. The fries gang. That's another story, but to cut it short, we've been besties for nearly four years. And it all started during our year's orientation week, picture us in seventh grade, with the line "I thought I was the only one who liked pancakes" as a start to a whole new chapter.
And now we're still sitting face to face, side by side, together. Success? Hell yeah.
And now, by the look on Yeji's face, I know she can't wait to spill some hot tea. Cringe sentence, I know.
Just like I predicted, she opens up. "Guess what?"
"You aced your chem test?" I roll my eyes, "Again?"
She hits me on the shoulder and mouths a quick noooo. "Lol, no. That's Lisa's stuff." Said person shoots her a death glare and she pretends to look guilty before continuing, "I was helping Mrs. Min with her papers, as always, and she told me that---"
"I heard my name." A sneaky voice approaches us as Mrs. Min, our headmistress leans over to our table with a smile. We got through a chorus of good mornings and how are you, miss?s before nervously laughing and side eye-ing Yeji.
Obviously, we were too obvious, "Oh, come on girls, loosen up." She sighs, "I'm sure you all are curious of what I've told Ms. Hwang?" We all nod a little too ethusiastically.
"Okay," she continues, seeing that no one else from the other tables are sneaking peeks, mainly because the food was too sublime, "But this is to be kept a secret until the official announcement is made."
We all nod, again. What can I say? We're the 'teacher's pet' gang.
The headmistress lowers her voice and we listen attentively, not ignoring any of the details. I gasp a little in the middle of the story and they all shush me. The headmistress pulls away with a playful grin before saying her goodbyes and walking away like nothing happened. Well, of course nothing happened.
Nothing a.k.a the biggest spill in Les Infires Academy history.
We were all still struck by lightning, and we didn't look like we were keeping it a secret too professionally. Yeji was literally on the edge of her seat, Ryujin was suspiciously stuffing chicken lasagna down (actually, they looked the most normal, even to me, the exaggerator), and Lisa, well, she was thinking. I knew she was thinking because I've seen that look before a million times.
A few minutes passed, and Yeji clears her throat, having our attention immediately.
"So, I guess we keep this a secret then?""No doubt."
"Definitely."
"Mmhmm.""Thought so."

Suprisingly, the rest of the day went off just as normal as regular days. I was cleaning off my locker (plus sanitizing, I'm lowkey a germophobe, tho I'd never admit it out loud), beside me, Ryujin was snacking off her locker, she must be some kind of food genie or something because the snaccs just keep coming, no wonder I'm always full. Lisa was truly psyched about her P.E class, and Yeji, well she just faded away with her Science assignment. We'll see her soon enough.
Before we go on, let's have a little brief on Les Infires Academy. The first all-girls academy which strictly focused on academics, and less on being-a-proper-lady training. Even back in the 1950s the girls of Les Infires (though it was actually Deriline Academy, Mrs. Min was the one who changed it to Les Infires) cooked up as much of a storm in theoratical physics as we did in the kitchen. Not to say that we didn't have those skills as well. Sana and the Culinary Club cooked up an awesome five-course meal for the upper-class visitors from Morocco who came to our school for an international review a week ago.
And I shouldn't leave out Blue Rose Academy as well, since, it's basically Les Infires, but all boys. We were different schools but not really, seeing that both buildings are literally facing each other, only separated by a road. And Blue Rose isn't as different from us than anyone would've thought. The boys there were just as amazing at Shakespeare poetry, making vegetable pasta, and theatre as they were in sports and slam-dunks.
The most evident trait Blue Rose and Les Infires had in common, was actually our GPAs. Every year, both schools would score an average 3.70 pointer, and that was the least. It's not always rainbows and sunshine, though. Because when you enter an overachieving private school with low fees like Les Infires and Blue Rose, the stakes, are astonishingly high. The interview and evaluations before entering these schools tell it all.
Oops, 5 p.m. I almost missed the grand announcement. The buzzing corridor turns silent as the announcement bell rings. Three times. The mic is open. A few opening words by Mrs. Min, an apology for not instructing an official gathering, and then the news.
"Due to the plans of rebuilding Blue Rose Academy into a charity centre and orphanage by next year, the school board of Blue Rose Academy and Les Infires Academy have agreed to join schools and the students of Blue Rose Academy will be continuing their studies here, with the students of Les Infires. New arrangements have been made and the process of rearranging will be done this weekend, with the help of the students of Blue Rose Academy. I hope all students are informed and clear. That's all for today's announcement, thank you everyone."
And I oop---
