I'm running. Running from the names. Running from the people. Running from the problems.
The cruel words echoed through my head, filling my soul with nothing but negativity.
'Disappointment'
'Mistake'
'Pathetic'
'Abandoned'
The bright headlights of a transport truck lit up the the road as night fell ages ago. Only momentarily after I left, it had started to rain heavily.
My hair stuck to my face, sweeping over my eyes every so often.
The truck driver honks his horn noisily as I realized I stopped in the middle or the street. But I couldn't move. I just stood there frozen, awaiting impact.A young boy, not much older than I, sprinted towards me, effectively pushing me off the road just before I got hit. The driver honked his horn one last long time to warn us of our stupidity.
"What do you think you were doing?!" He yelled.
Embarrassed, I hung my head in shame.
He gently pressed 3 fingers on my chin to connect our eye contact. His face was one I'll remember all so vividly. Mind the fact that he was soaking wet and it was dark, I could make out all of his beautiful features. From his dark brown hair sitting above his warm caramel eyes that were staring intensely into my own to his freckles sprawled across his lovely cheekbones.
Without answering his question, I burst into a sob. Before I know it, I'm embraced into a sympathizing, warm hug. This kind of affection I was unfamiliar with. I didn't know how to feel.
"Don't worry, you'll be alright. You're going to be okay."
And for the first time in my life, I felt like someone actually cared.
