A Letter to Remember

Dear Daniel,

I regret to inform you of my situation in which I do not wish to live anymore. I've made my decision and there is no going back.

It's not your fault, nor has it ever been. For it was all mine. It was the way I reacted on stressful occasions.

Even though there was no way for you to understand what I was facing, you were always there to comfort me. You've always been there for me. Through thick and thin, and I'd like to thank you for all of that.

Although I did take you for granted and didn't realize I was ruining your life with my own burdens. I am terribly sorry about that.

Anyways, I'm also sorry for the argument the other day. I hated it yet I'm glad it happened. Yes, it means that I probably lost you, yet it made me acknowledge some things I didn't even consider. I now realize that I've had you help me far too many times. I never even thought you were feeling depressed. So I am giving you a sincere apology.

I'll never understand why you saved me from that truck eight years ago, but I am glad you did. You gave me another chance to redeem myself, although I didn't seem to make myself worth it. I'm sorry about that too.

I'm sorry I'm worthless.
I'm sorry I'm a disappointment.
I'm sorry I'm depressed.
I'm sorry I've self-harmed.
I'm sorry I'm damaged.
I'm sorry I want to die.
I'm sorry I'm broken.

I have no reason to be here anymore. I'm a let-down, a mistake, and I'm sorry it's too late to change that. I'm not meant to be here, my presence is not needed any longer.

It's okay though, you'll see me when your time comes. But for the time being, look up at the stars. I'll watch you from above but most likely down below.

Just know that you're the best thing that has ever happened to me. And you mean everything to me. I love you Dan. I love you.

Although I do not want you to witness my last breath, You should know that I plan on dying the same way I should've long ago.

Don't bother to stop me. Because by the time you read these words, I'll be long gone.

Yours Sincerely,

Ava White

Daniel crumpled the note and threw it at the wall in frustration. Just then, realization struck his eyes.

"Ava."

Sprinting out of the building, he headed towards to road behind the park.

"AVA!" The worried man would yell every now and then.

All of a sudden a loud transport truck honked its horn, alarming Daniel of his surroundings.

It all happened in slow motion.

Ava pulled out a green sticky note from her pocket. And for the first time in forever, Daniel saw this miserable girls smile.

"AVA!" He yelled what seemed too slow, trying to deprive her attention away from the paper and onto the upcoming vehicle.

However, she did know about the truck heading her way. And she awaited the impact.

Ava gracefully looked up and stared into Daniels saddened eyes. Yet she was still smiling.

Daniel made a run for it, despite his legs feeling like jelly. He kept reaching for the girl, but it was too late.

The impact happened so quickly that the slow-mo effect dissipated. He couldn't have saved her this time.

"NOOO!"

He finally made it to Ava's lifeless body and dropped to his knees. The smiled that was just on her face was gone and she was still clutching the green note tightly in her stiff hands. Carefully, Daniel pulled it out and read his own handwriting.

Dear Ava White,

I love you. Don't forget that.

Yours truly,

Your man Dan ;)

Waterfalls of salty years poured down his face. Anger overcame him and he started to yell.

"NO! AVA, WAKE UP! PLEASE! JUST WAKE UP!" It was no use. She was gone.

After hours of crying and hugging Ava's corpse, Daniel stood up and wiped his tear stained cheeks.

"I tried to give you another chance." His voice was cracking and dry. "That's why I saved you when you were only 8. You were lost just like me and I wanted to make you feel better. I never wanted you to feel the way I did. When I first looked into your eyes, I saw something I have never seen before....

I saw that you were broken."
