kairi sat upright in his bed, gazing out of the window. the conversation with his advisor still running through his head.

jeez, aren't you tired?

he thought.

kairi looked at his small kingdom. one that has been able to sustain itself through so much. was it really worth doing it though? was it worth his possible humiliation? then he thought of his parents, how they would kill him if they found out that he was thinking about his own well being over their kingdom. he decided against the thought telling him it wasn't worth it. he wanted to make them proud. all of the sacrifice they had made for him and maiya.

he enjoyed this view. kairi could see everything from here. but the view just wasn't enough to distract him from his thoughts. which were completely, and utterly, diminishing him. he was saved when he heard alejandro knock on his door.

"kairi, may i come in? i know you're upset about the proposition. but please let me discuss it with you"

kairi looked towards his door, rolled his eyes, and sighed.

"yeah, come in" he let out.

kairi found that he could never say no to his advisor. because though he was the same age as him, he was much more knowledgeable, and clever. his parents had hired him around the same time kairi turned 16. at first, kairi despised the boy for being smarter and "better" than him. however, that changed when alejandro stopped kairi from making a fool of himself. the main reason kairi's parents had hired the young boy, was because even with his lack of experience, he always seemed to know the right choice. he surpassed everyone in their entire kingdom when it came to intelligence, and equitable, along with reasonable, decisions.

alejandro strolled into kairi's room and sat next to him on his bed.

"i really think that you should do this. it gives us a chance to make an alliance with the northern kingdom."

"pfft, yeah okay." kairi said looking down at his hands that were resting in his lap.

"kairi, you really need to consider. our kingdom needs the trade and alliance with them. we could suffer greatly if you don't do this."

"..."

kairi pondered the idea. he really didn't want to. but he couldn't bear the thought of being so selfish that he wouldn't do the task for his kingdom. as much as he resented the idea, what could go wrong?

"...fine, i'll do it. but if i get caught ale, i will order the guards to throw you off that mountain" he declared as he looked up, looked at alejandro and pointed behind him to the mountains sitting on the horizon.

alejandro's mouth curled into a smile as he held out his hand.

"deal"
