"Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: Humans and Monsters.

One day, war broke out between the two races.

After a long battle, the humans were victorious.

They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell."

"And if you fall down Mt. Ebbot, the monsters eat you!" One of the boys in the class exclaimed.

"Alex, didn't we talk about being quiet during carpet time?" The teacher scolded, putting the book down. The rest of the class started giggling and Alex blushed. "Sorry," He mumbled.

"Mrs. Marksberry?" Kaylee raised her hand. "Is that story true? Are monsters real?"

"Of course not. It's just an old story." A lot of the children released a sigh of relief, but one child, Bryan, was only confused. Who would write such a sad and horrible story? Before he could think to ask, however, the bell rang. "Ah, I've lost track of time!" The teacher stood up. "It's time for you all to go home."

As Bryan walked out of the building, he looked up at Mt. Ebbot. That story his teacher told the class reminded him of that boy who had gone missing a couple years before. One of the six children who reportedly had gone up the mountain and never returned.

The boy's name was Jon. Bryan remembered the news story. His fate was the same as all the other missing kids. He was last seen going up the mountain, and wasn't seen since. A lot of the other kids thought that the old story about monsters were real, and that they caused the missing childrens' fates. Bryan himself just found the tale tragic. Did the monsters ever hurt the humans? Were they even dangerous? What if-

"Get out of the way loser!" Bryan was pushed to the ground before he could finish his thought. "Ow! What was that for?" Bryan yelled. "You were staring off at Ebbot, and you were also in the way. What, are you scared of monsters too?" The older student taunted. Bryan was pretty sure his name was Dave, a middle schooler. He stood up, determined to hold his ground. "N-No! Monsters aren't scary!"

"Awww, the little twerp is gonna put up a fight! Cute!" Bryan was sure that he was as good as doomed, until another voice broke in. "Dave, stop. He's just a little kid." Jack walked in between the two. Dave sighed. "Fine. Only if he can prove that he's got some sense."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Bryan questioned.

"It means that I Triple-Dog-Dare you to climb up Mt. Ebbot yourself."
