CHAPTER FOURTEEN
I keep myself steady enough to walk over to Michael to give him what I found.
"You lied," I almost whisper. I look up and glare long and hard at Callie.
Michael inspects the gadget I just handed him.
"A phone," Michael says in a low voice.
"A burner phone," I state, still holding my cold stare on Callie. She stares back at me, but she's struggling to keep it up. I can't believe she would do something like this to us, especially to me. What did I ever do to her? How did she even come up with such a sadistic plan? There must be ^something^ that I must've done in the past to tick her off to make her do this. *But what?*
"It still has a history of all the calls she sent out and received, AND where she's been hiding Courtney, the ^real^ one. Here, take a look," Michael tosses the phone back to me after scrolling through enough evidence. He circles the table as I look through the call history and I notice majority of the numbers that called that are on here are Adriana's cell and our home phone. There's also a program installed into the phone to block calls made to another phone. *She blocked all the calls that Adriana was trying to send me. All this time, Adriana was calling me, for who knows what, and I wasn't able to pick up because Callie blocked the calls..*
"So what have you done with Natalie?" I ask.
"Nothing, she was never physically in this plan. I just used her name to get all of you to come so Adriana would be left alone in LA," she smirks. I want to punch it right off her face.
"Michael," I say. He comes to my side, but I don't look at him. "Here. Take the phone and go find Courtney. I'll take care of this fraud here," I order. Through my peripheral vision I see him look at me, then at Callie, then back at me and finally nod. I wait for him to leave, and once I hear the warehouse door screech shut, I slam my fist, hard, on the table.
"Now," I pause, "tell me what you've done with her. I know she's alive," I clench my fists, making sure I don't look up because if I do, I know I'll throw a punch. I have to keep calm. I have to breathe.
"You *know* she's alive," Callie makes air quotations when she says 'know'. "Confident, are you?" Her voice is on the verge of being considered shaky. Obviously she's trying hard to hold onto her own confident composure but not succeeding.
"I am, because I know you're lying and you're trying to keep up this little 'I still have leverage' act. Well, it's not working, so give it up and tell me," I answer harshly. She leans forward a little, glancing down at her hands then looking back up at me.
"She's still at your house. Still surrounded by MY agents," she answers, finally. She leans back in her chair. "And they're still under my order that if I don't give them the signal within a certain amount of hours, they'll kill her. She'll be dead even before you get back; just as I've wanted her for all these years: ^dead^." Even though her head is down now, I can see a smirk crawling onto her face and I feel my muscles tense, desiring to attack her, but I hold myself back. However, I am curious as to why she's wanted Adriana dead for so long. Last time I was aware that they saw each other, they seemed like they were on good terms. Callie didn't look like she wanted some sick revenge, nothing like this.
"Why have you wanted her dead?" I inquire, starting to pace in front of the table.
"Because she stole something from me," Callie answers, keeping her head down. Her voice sounds softer now. I soften mine a little as well; using this method may get me answers more easily.
"What did she steal?" I ask. She doesn't answer. *Guess the method didn't work..* I glance at her mid-step and realize that it wasn't the method that failed. By the look on her face, she doesn't look like she's avoiding my question; she's struggling to find a way to answer. I wait a couple minutes and start to get impatient.
"Cal-"
"You," she whispers.
