Grace was busy with the stacked papers on her desk from other issues that she had neglected for a long time, forcing herself to work on it throughout the morning. Feeling tired, she decided to make coffee to get back to work with more focus. She took her cellphone and went to the coffee corner and while preparing it, she decided to send a text message to Will.
" Good morning sweetie, I hope you are having a good day already. miss you "
She put the phone aside and finished making coffee. After a while, her phone rang, She picked up the phone and then smiled and answered it.
Grace : Hey you.
Will : Miss me already ha?
Grace : Yeah, how is your day so far?
Will : Just finished a meeting then i have some paperwork, no big deal. You?
Grace : Ugh, where do i start! There's tons of paperwork for me too, some unfinished cases that i kept for later as i was busy with the Dawson case.
Will was silent for a while, as if he was thinking.
Will : It's good to give your mind a break sometimes. Do the paperwork, that will help.
Grace : yeah Will, but i feel like i'm not making any progress in that case. Whenever i feel like i'm one step ahead, something happen and i go back to the start.
Will : Maybe you need to give this case to someone else.
Grace : Are you kidding m-
Grace did not complete her sentence as Julian ran toward her, breathing hard and carrying in his hands a bunch of papers. She held her phone close to her ear as she was looking at Julian with amazement.
Julian : Y-You need to see this.
He handed her the papers then She started to read them, while Will was listening from the other side with a clear focus.
Julian : There is a ship coming next month to New York, a big one. I'm not sure yet if Adrian Dawson is going to be involved but some source said that he will be.
Grace : Where did you get this?
Julian : Frank from department C, he got the case of the port and he knew from people there that a big ship is coming soon and there is a man paying people there to do what he wants with the illegal ships.
Grace : That can't be Adrian himself, it would be to obvious.
Julian : Exactly.
Grace : We need to investigate more.
Will felt the blood freezing in his veins hearing what he have just heard, Grace is now not looking for Adrian as much as she is looking for the other man, Will Carson himself.
She gave the papers back to Julian, and He turned to leave and find an empty office to search for some information, while Grace put the phone back on her ear.
Grace : Will are you still there?
Will : Yes.
Grace : I'm sorry things just got heated up so i gotta go.
Grace : It's okay. Break a leg.
Will : Thank you, you too, see you later.
She ended the call and then went to where Julian was sitting in front of a computer screen looking for data. She closed the door behind her and looked long at him while thoughts kept coming crowded in her mind. She looked a little confused.
Julian : Why are you standing like that. Look I'm trying to know when exactly the ship is gonna be here and which ship so i think we are doing fine for now.
Grace : Julian?
She kept looking at him in silence for a moment, which attracted Julian's attention, so he left his head up and turned to her.
Julian : Are you okay?
Grace : Why are you doing this?
Julian : Doing what?
Julian looked confused and Grace felt angry but she held herself. She did not want to tell him to his face that he was a traitor and that all he is doing now is misleading her, but before opening her mouth to tell him that the door opened and Frank entered the office holding few papers and then he gave 'em to Julain.
Frank : Julian look, Hey Grace. Man i found another amazing info about the ship.
Julian : Tell me.
Frank : You see those papers? they are copies of the importing contracts. Look at the autographs down to the ship recipient.
Julian : Grace look. It says W.S.C.
Grace got close to take a look at the papers. They both looked focus trying to examine the autograph.
Frank : Hey that's all i got for now. I need to get back to work. tell me what you'll find okay?
Julian : Okay.
Grace snapped, finally.
Grace : WTF that supposed to be mean? That Adrian Dawson has nothing to do with it? Julian are you trying to confuse me.
Julian : Wait, what? No. Don't you see it. Adrian Dawson would never put his name in an illegal contracts. Of course now we are looking for his man. the one who is taking care of all of this.
After Grace heard what Julian has said, the truth struck her hard. He was not Adrian's inside man.
Grace : Fuck!
Julian : What? What is it?
Grace : Julian, All this time i thought you were a rat.
Julian : What!
Grace : Yes. Adrian has an inside man here at this department and all this time i thought it was you, i am sorry but i just realized that it's not you.
Julian : Grace, are you fucking kidding me. I'm your partner. We've been partners for years.
Grace : I'm sorry Julian but put yourself in my shoe. Adrian is always a few steps ahead of us. He always find a way to get out of troubles and besides all of that Isaac told me that.
Julian : Other than the fact that it's so damn true, his lawyer is working with you?
Grace : No he refused.
There were silence in the air as they looked at each other, and in the head of each of them, hurricanes of ideas.
Julian : Grace. No one knows about this except me, you and?
Grace opened her mouth shockingly as she took a loud breath and put her hand on her mouth.
Grace : DAVID!!
Julian : Exactly. I'm not sure if it's him, I'm not accusing him or anything because he is the boss but what do you think?
Grace thought a little and then shook her head as if she had finally found the answer.
She remembered that she had always told him the details before Julian, but what confirmed her suspicions that the time she almost caught the man who supplied Sidney with drugs, she remembered well that she kept an eye on Julian so he wouldn't have a chance to use his phone and she remembered well that he didn't use it.
David must have sent Julian with her so he can tell Adrian not to send his man to deliver the drugs, and also to make her believe that Julian was the traitor.
Everything was now crystal clear!
Grace : Julian, go after his bank account.
Julian : Good idea.
Grace : Julian it just you and me now. Okay?
Julian : I'm afraid so, partner.
Grace : We will act like we don't know anything about this ship, I'm not even going to talk to Maria even though she might know things. and of course not David.
Julian : great. I'll keep digging.
Grace walked out of the office trying to held herself together after she was deceived by her manager and role model David Soliman, but she swore to make him pay the price for his treachery to justice.
