John B might think JJ is the best surfer he knows, but he's lying to himself. Of the pogues, there was only one obvious answer to who the best surfer was. (Y/N). You had been surfing your entire life, and people could tell. When you weren't in surfing competitions, you were working on your technique and working to become a better surfer than you already were.

You knew John B only said that JJ was the best surfer he knew because he's known JJ longer. JJ's confidence would be shattered if someone had told him that you were way better than him. And in all honesty? It didn't bother you that John B thought that. Sparing JJ is more important than your ego. Plus, if it was the other way around, you wouldn't want to be told you weren't good.

Maybe it was the fact that you two were the best surfers in the group. Maybe it was the fact that you two were the ones who knew what it was like to feel unwanted. Maybe it was because you two felt like you were the only ones to understand each other and what the other was going through.

Whatever it was, led to you two breaking the rules.

Pope was the first to notice you two macking on each other. It was months ago, JJ made a comment about a tourist's bikini and you had pulled your t shirt off to reveal a similar suit.

"What, like this?" You had asked innocently.

JJ's breath had hitched and then he finally spoke. "Y-yeah, like that."

Pope had caught on to what was going on, and he leaned over to JJ to whisper something in his ear. Warn him, that rules are rules, no matter how hot you looked.

After that day out, you and JJ made a secret agreement. You two would be together, but there was to be no macking in public. This was especially hard for JJ, when all he wanted to do was comment on how good you always looked or hold you hand when he was stressed.

The only place outside of your homes you allowed macking was the surf dates you two had once a week. You two had to be sneaky about it, if any of the other pogues found out you were surfing without them, they would know what was going on.

Today was the day you were going out to meet JJ to surf. You had just won a competition, so you used a portion of the winnings to buy matching bracelets for yourself and JJ. You tied your board to the roof of your car and hopped in. You drove with music lightly playing, feeling the excitement bubble within you. Because you only had time to do 'dates' once a week, it was all you could think about before and after. Your car pulled up to a lot and you grabbed your board off the top. You saw JJ waiting for you in your spot, staring out at the ocean. You smiled slightly to yourself, thinking about how lucky you are to have such a wonderful boyfriend. You set your board down on the sand and wrapped your arms around his torso from behind him.

"Hey," he said, turning to face you.

"Hey," you whispered back. You reached inside your bag, grabbing the matching bracelets. "I got these for us. With some of the money from my last competition."

JJ smiled, looking at you with pure love in his eyes. "You're such a dork. Thank you, though."

You moved to tie it around his wrist. "Here, let me tie it for you."

He watched as you focused on tying the bracelet securely, smiling slightly at the look of concentration on your face. One you had finished, he stopped you when you tried to tie yours on your own wrist.

"Let me," he said, taking the bracelet from your hands. He tied it around your wrist and slowly brought your knuckles to his lips, kissing your hand softly.

You blushed, reaching for your board so he wouldn't notice.

"Don't be embarrassed, it's so cute when you blush. Especially when I'm the one making you blush," he told you.

"I just don't like when my face gets all red."

"I do," he looked you in the eyes. "I love every little thing about you. The way you laugh, the way you smile, the thing you do with your lip when you concentrate really hard. When you fiddle with your necklace when you're stressed or feel anxious. I love you."

You looked at him, admiring his handsome face as he spoke about you. "I love you, too."

He picked up his board, reaching a hand out for you to take. "Ready?"

"Ready," you said, taking his outstretched hand.
